Pancake Race Day – Tuesday March 8th 2011
PANCAKE DAY IS almost here by the time this issue of Phonebox is out. Hopefully all our runners have returned their forms to the Nat West Bank by March 1st. Sadly our Mayor Cllr Mike Hughes and Susan will not be travelling to Liberal due to Susan’s ill health and we wish her a speedy recovery.
All the Francis jackson Homes Ltd signs are out on the roads leading into the town advertising the event. As well as a sign indicating the closure of the High Street for the duration of the race The police are no longer allowed to manage the road closure so this job is now being managed by the Pancake Committee. But we are assured there will be a strong police presence.

NEWS FROM THE OUSE VALLEY
PARTNERSHIP
The partnership between Stoke Goldington School and North Crawley School continues to go from strength to strength. By working in affiliation, we are able to provide many fantastic experiences for our children. Indeed, both schools have been focusing upon ‘Old Toys’ as part of their history work. On Friday 21st January the children visited the Milton Keynes museum and everyone enjoyed learning about the past and how people used to cook, do their laundry and what they did for entertainment.
Indeed, this all began with a toy mobile phone! The
Role Play area in the Early Years classroom had been changed into a castle from long ago but there ‘a knight’
was observed using a mobile phone! This led to a discussion about what we would and would not have
seen in a castle from long ago. The Foundation Stage children were so interested and as Year1 and 2 were J working on "Toys from the Past" we thought a trip to
Milton Keynes Museum would be a good idea. The
children had a fantastic time. The children saw the differences between how the rich and poor lived and
had the opportunity to wash and dry clothes using a
dolly and a mangle. Everyone soon realised how lucky
we are today! Furthermore, the children in KS1 were treated to a visitor from Bedford museum who brought along oodles of old toys for the children to investigate
and play with. It was most surprising to find that many children preferred the old toys to the modern ones
available today!
NEWS FROM NORTH CRAWLEY CE SCHOOL AND
STOKE GOLDINGTON CE FIRST SCHOOL
According to the Chinese zodiac 2011 is the year of the ‘Golden Rabbit’, so the children and staff of North Crawley and Stoke Goldington Schools have been learning all about the Chinese New Year tradition with the help of Jiang Li from the Chinese Music company.
Jiang Li recently paid a visit to school and taught the children about Chinese music by demonstrating many instruments such as an erhu, a special two stringed violin, a guzheng which is a Chinese harp, and a variety of drums. A group of very enthusiastic young volunteers helped create such an amazing thunderous sound.
