OLNEY TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB -
TAKING THE UCL DIVISION 1 BY STORM
With the football season just over the half way mark 2010/2011 has truly seen a complete reversal in fortunes both on and off the field of play!
The end of the 2009/2010 season saw the appointment of a new Football Management Team headed by Manager Neil Griffiths but supported by coaches Mark Walsh, Chris Pink, Dean Chapman and Reserve Team Manager Scott Wrighting. The team have worked tirelessly in transforming all football matters and no stone has been left unturned – from player recruitment, coaching even through to how the players have to look after themselves now on a Friday night before a match - not a massive fan of Facebook but it’s great for telling you if a player has been out to a local hostelry for refreshment!
The 1st Team have taken the UCL Division 1 by storm and have headed the Division for over 5 months playing a brand of football not seen in this league for many years. In days of players being paid quite considerable sums of money how refreshing is it to see the Olney Squad buck all trends! This has been further borne out by the great crowds on a Saturday afternoon closely followed by record hits on the Olney Town FC web site.
from going out on a Friday and Saturday evening never came into question, in fact the social side takes priority!
In addition the Ladies Team and Sunday continue to thrive in their respective leagues.
Keeping pace with the football has meant that the Club has had to seriously look at itself in terms of how it manages itself off the field. In the autumn the long serving Committee was dis- banded and replaced by 3 working Committees:
Playing under the floodlights
Reserve Team Manager Scott Wrighting and Coach Chris Pink have also turned fortunes around for the Reserves - providing a great base for the team to push into the top 4 in the 2nd half of the season.
This year has also seen our Colts go from strength to strength and we now have an U 18 Team playing in the Northants Floodlit League - it has been a real baptism of fire for the lads but one that will serve the Club well in years to come by providing players for the Saturday squads.
No one can accuse the Club of not taking an interest in the full age range and our Veterans Team sit comfortably and proudly at the top of their Division with promotion in their sights as well as a decent Cup run - stopping this team

The impact has been dramatic with Quiz nights, a Mega Quiz (to be done at home!) and live music evenings as well as the much anticipated weekly Meat Raffle (special thanks to Paul Bennett on the High Street). Once again details of all activity can be seen on the website.
The Football Club is a great facility and one that provides for all our needs both on and off the field. But if you have a requirement for a party - from a 21st through to christenings - then the Football Club could be right for you.
