OLNEY has gone HOPPING MAD!
Yes, Olney is back in the brewing trade. The Hopping Mad brewery went into production just in time to offer sample tasters at the Dickens day event in December. Now, however, they have come well beyond the ‘sample’ stage and are enjoying encouraging orders from several pubs and clubs with rumours that it is outselling the regular ales by three to one.
This fine enterprise is the dream child of Matthew Hargreaves and David Wright. They are reinforced by Mark Hickman – who is
enjoying an apprenticeship to the trade. Cleverly the boys are also selling 5 litre barrels (available from Bacchus on Olney Market Place) for drinking in the home. A delivery of 40 barrels sold out in just one day at the Bacchus store.
Their marketing drive is going full force, with a £1 a pint evening held at The Swan Inn & Bistro where over 200 pints were sold in just over an hour. Photos from that evening and a similar event at the Rugby Club are shown here.
