Snow Snow Snow, we had been pretty lucky here of late, as the rest of the country languished in the white stuff, we didn’t seem to be getting any of it! How things change. As I put on the walking boots this morning and two pairs of socks, with the dog’s keen eye on me wondering if she was going out (I’ll take her later, promise) the thought of using the car crossed my mind, it might be more fun testing the driving skills in the snow; but as it was a couple of decades ago since I’ve
experienced a prolonged period with the stuff, I decided to walk.
Walking in the snow can be quite exhilating (another word for tiring), if you keep your grip you’re usually ok in fresh snow, whatever is underneath shouldn’t really matter. Except if your at the top of the lane leading up to the Coop from the Olney Deli. The paving there is downright dangerous, it is cracked and has moved alarmingly. See the pictures on page 27. One of our staff has already had to have several days off with a badly sprained ankle, (I will bear showing you the picture of said ankle) but as a warning to others we have
printed the pictures of the paving to help stop any more falls. I also witnessed a pedestrian just a few of days ago nearly going over. The only thing that saved him was his age, he managed to stumble upright again.
So as they say, keep a sharp look out on the streets. I’m not sure of the state of any other paving in the area being quite so bad but with a covering of light snow or ice things underfoot can be hidden and quite dangerous, and we don’t want you falling over at this time of year!
