Hypnosis -Johnexplainedinlastmonthsarticlesomeofthefacts,myths and benefits of hypnosis. This month he showcases some real cases.
Smoking
Peter (name changed), first visited the clinic on Tuesday 23rd June 2009. He was 66 years old, and had smoked since he was 13, a total of 53 years averaging 40 a day. I asked him how many cigarettes he had smoked? “God knows” he replied.
He had in fact smoked 771,680 cigarettes and burnt £192,670. He was devastated.
After his initial free consultation, I started the first of his therapy sessions, and one hour later, he became a non-smoker. The therapy continued in subsequent visits to ensure he would never smoke again. It’s no exaggeration to say, that his life has turned around.
Panic Attacks
Simon Fisher (actual name) from Bozeat in Northamptonshire first came to see me on Thursday 2nd July 2009. He was experiencing severe panic attacks coupled with compulsive behavioural problems. He worked as a mechanic for a specialist company repairing and testing vintage vvcars. Earlier in his life he had raced motorbikes and achieved great success. Problems first appeared when he went on a motor cycling holiday with two friends to France and Germany. He was fine on country roads and lanes, but riding on wide highways, especially motorways and autobahns became intolerable. It was as if the bike had developed a bias, pulling dramatically to the right. Every right-hand bend in the road became a nightmare.
So severe was the problem, Simon told his two pals that he just couldn’t go on, and was going home. They were halfway through the holiday in mid Germany. He very cleverly worked out a route that would get him back to the UK using only back roads and avoiding motorways completely – which he did.
In his spare time, Simon flew model aircraft. He was passionate about his hobby but developed a “fear” that what ever plane he was flying, by remote control, would hit someone on landing – and kill them. It took four sessions of Hypnotherapy to cure Simon. His motorcycling skills returned as did his ability to drive a motor car, and he returned to his hobby of flying model aircraft with renewed enthusiasm.
Drug Addiction
David Armitage (not real name for obvious
reasons) is 21 years old. It was his mother who first approached me and asked for my help. During the initial consultation, I quickly became aware of his many attributes. He was polite, well- mannered and extremely respectful. For such a young man, it was deplorable he had a long history of drug addiction.
David was 12 years old when he first got hooked on Cannabis and this continued until he was 15, when he moved on to Cocaine. Between 16 and 18, the drug of his choice was Ecstasy
For the past three years, he has used whatever he could get, depending on availability and cost. On his first visit, Cannabis was the offending substance, and there proved to be numerous issues that needed dealing with. One month later, he walked out of the clinic drug free.
Insomnia
Susie Adderson (actual name) came to see me from North Crawley in Buckinghamshire.
She was a lovely lady who had been involved with horses for 17 years. She was suffering from Insomnia. Not being able to sleep can be debilitating in the extreme and is a serious medical condition. Using Hypnosis, it is essential to treat the cause not the symptom and that is exactly what I did. As the fourth session came to an end, a relaxed but vibrant Susie couldn’t thank me enough. She went home that evening, looking forward to a wonderful night’s sleep. When she awoke the following morning after eight hours uninterrupted bliss, the first thing she did was telephone me in her excitement. She woke me up.
Weight loss
Jane Thompson (surname changed) had tried everything to lose weight. Indeed, she had been to everyone and had no compunctions in telling me, I was her last hope.
After talking to her for 45 minutes, she informed me she weighed 17 stone 2 pounds, and would love to be 11 stone once again, as she was 10 years previously at the age of 30. Like most overweight people, she had some smart clothes in her wardrobe that she would love to wear again, and if she were 11 stone – she could.
So, with that ideal weight fixed in her mind and a powerful image of her in a little black dress, I began her first session of therapy. Although weight was the presenting problem, there was a
certain amount of
“baggage” and several
underlying factors that
were to blame. These
were all dealt with during
the next four sessions,
when her weight came
tumbling down. She had begun to exercise and her mind and body had been educated to eat good, low-calorie nutritious food. Four months later she returned for a “top-up” session, and it was a different woman who walked through the front door, just 13 pounds short of her ideal weight.
Fear of Rodents
Suzanne Williams (surname changed) aged 50 lives in Surbiton, Surrey. She was very happy and loved her house, that was until the first rat appeared in her kitchen in September 2006. During the following three years the situation became intolerable. Eliminating these vermin became a major priority and despite laying poison down, calling in pest control officers from the local council and private companies – the rats remained.
A small stream/drainage channel ran alongside the outer wall of her house, and it was thought by all concerned, the visitors were accessing the property from below the surface of the water.
By early 2009, with no solution in sight, Suzanne was becoming very emotional and depressed. She took a week off work and headed for friends and relatives in Northamptonshire. It was here her sister recommended she should make an appointment to see me. After a short discussion, it was obvious the rats were not a figment of a fertile imagination. She was practical, logical and had an analytical mind. Above all, she was a very nice person who needed help immediately. That week I saw her for three sessions, by which time the fear of rats had gone completely and returned home to Surbiton feeling very confident.
During her absence, an underwater channel had been discovered by the local council, which had been blocked off. Although she caught sight of a rat one morning outside her back door, it had no effect on her whatsoever. After that, the uninvited guests disappeared.
