News from New City Photographic Society
IN THE CLUB'S first competition of this indoor season Mike Dalhousie's, image "Flamingos" topped the scoring in the projected section. There were six other high scoring images in line for the top place but the quality of the detail in the plumage of the flamingoes decided it. The image will be on the club website in the News Section. Visit www.newcityps.co.uk to get a fullscreen version of this winning picture.
Meanwhile in the prints section of the competition the winner was Chris Mitchell's 'Running round Sir John'. The whizzing figure of the child running round the statue of Sir John Betjeman in St Pancras Station will probably be seen to best advantage on a computer screen too.
The judge liked the fact that Chris had slightly tilted his camera to create a more fun feel to the image. Chris has prepared his own report about his picture because it has a story of it's own to be told.
NCPS member, Chris Mitchell, recently travelled to the USA to see one of his pictures in an exhibition at the Dank Haus Gallery in Chicago.
The photograph, entitled “Running Round Sir John”, was chosen by the gallery to be shown along with 39 other pictures taken by photographers from all over the world.
Chris is a member of a specialist online group called the Pentax Discuss Mailing List (PDML for short) and the members had the idea of publishing a book of photographs.
The gallery curators saw the book, were impressed and asked if they could put on an exhibition of a selection of photographs.
Chris is proud to report that the print was sold to an art collector who now displays it in his home in Chicago.
The book, “PDML Photo Annual 2010”, is available from www.blurb.com with all profits going to Cure Search, an international childhood cancer charity.
