A creative time at Stoke
AFTER OCTOBER HALF Term, Pre-School opens its doors for another busy few weeks concentrating on ‘Creative Development’ as our Area of Learning. There will be Hallowe’en antics aplenty, plus huge bonfire pictures and rocket-making to celebrate Fireworks Night.
Our calendar is full of special events this month with the children putting their thinking caps on for how to raise money for Children in Need on 19th November; taking part in activities linked to Road Safety Week from 22nd – 28th November and learning about St. Andrews Day on 30th November.
During November we’ll also be getting the children involved in fundraising with a sponsored ‘Nature Hunt’ on 9th November. Following the popularity of TV’s Autumn Watch show, the children will take to the playing field outside the Village Hall to count leaves, spot birds and pick up Nature’s
Autumn treasures. They will be sponsored for how many items they spot and collect as well as answering questions on an Autumn theme – if you see them taking part please lend your support!
We are particularly pleased to welcome a new member of staff to our team this month – Emma Shipley joins us as a Play Assistant, increasing our staff numbers to six. In addition to our PlayLeader Vicky Cartwright and Deputy Lois Hallam, our Key Persons Teresa Postawa and Elly Sapwell are both currently studying for their NVQ Level 3 qualification. Angela Clarke is increasing her working hours at Pre-School this month, taking on the role of Play Assistant and starting to study for her next NVQ Level. We’re very proud of our team at Pre-School and how hard they work both at the setting and out-of-hours studying for training courses.

TATS to stage
‘Lark Rise to Candleford’
TURVEY AMATEUR THEATRICAL Society is to stage “Lark Rise to Candleford” at Turvey Village Hall from November 9-13.
The production is actually two separate plays with music, performed on alternate evenings. Both will be performed on the Saturday, as matinee and evening shows.
Created 25 years before the BBC TV series, these plays present Flora Thompson’s classic autobiography rather differently. Scenes from her childhood as “Laura” are portrayed as a series of tableaux, one moment high farce, the next deeply moving, underpinned by evocative songs and music. Each play is set in a single day, two or three years apart – the first day of harvest for “Lark Rise” and the first hunt meet of the New Year, a winter’s day, for “Candleford”.
The staging is also rather different from TATS’ usual productions, aiming to capture the spirit of Bill Bryden’s original production with the National Theatre’s innovative Cottesloe Company.
Be prepared to be surrounded by Laura’s memories as she grows up in the impoverished hamlet of Lark Rise (Juniper Hill) in the 1880s, and then starts work at Dorcas Lane’s post office in Candleford Green (Fringford).
Whilst each play is self-contained, there’s a specially-discounted double ticket, so why not see the whole story and come to watch both?
Tickets are on sale at Central Stores, Turvey.
