Summer Leys Hardwater Road, nr. Wollaston
A wise old owl told me that there are more people like me that need to get out and get more exercise as the autumn and winter set in.
If that is you, we have a great answer. Much more fun than exercises, useful and a help to our local wildlife, why not join in on our volunteer days. The first Sunday of the month, meeting in the car park at 9am and doing a variety of tasks for about three hours on the reserve, sometimes in parts of the reserve that you cannot normally access.
For help on anything this and anything else Summer Leys, contact The Friends of Summer Leys on 01604471431 or emailgawarnes@aol.com
Our next winter indoor meeting is on 16 November and is

Music for Newton
Aneveningofgorgeousmelody
OLNEY MUSIC-LOVERS have become familiar with the Newton Ensemble, which gives concerts in aid of the Olney Newton Link. Now we’ve teamed up with more musical friends from Hertfordshire, in a concert of delightful chamber music.
The Gregynog Ensemble specialises in music which mixes string instruments with the warm and lyrical sound of the clarinet. This programme introduces two clarinet quintets which are undeservedly little-known. Robin Milford, who was sadly killed in the First World War, wrote his atmospheric Phantasy Quintet early last century. It’s an example of another fine composer lost to us too soon. The quintet by V Eduard Becker is from the early Romantic period, full of flashes of virtuosity.
Local horn-player (and conductor of the Newton Ensemble) Catherine Rose joins the group for John Ireland’s Sextet. This unusual instrumental combination opens up a new range of lovely sounds in a work which displays elements of folk song.
We do hope you’ll join us for the concert, which takes place at the Olney Centre at 7.30
pm on Sunday, 28th November 2010. Tickets are £8 (under-16s free), and can be bought in advance from Wardrobe in Rose Court or on the door. Refreshments will be available.
november sees the return of local potter Deborah Hopson
Wolpe to the Three Hares Gallery with her exhibition “Pots and
Prints”. drawing inspiration from as far back as the roman and Minoan periods, as well as from the 16th century and from Japan, her work is noted for its lightness and strength, for its strong colour and lustrous surfaces. Based as she is in olney, it is only fitting to see her work on display in her home town.
on november 13th the Museum is hosting an Archaeology Day. so come along and find out about excavations around olney; handle some of the finds and see if you can guess
Museum Matters
what they are. experts will be on hand to to give talks and advice on what secrets can be revealed by archaeology.
