Sinfonia concert
ON SATURDAY 20TH November Milton Keynes Sinfonia will be performing a concert of beautiful music in the lovely acoustic of Milton Keynes City Church (opposite M&S).
The evening will commence at 7.45pm with the well-known ‘Peer Gynt Suite’ which includes one of Grieg’s best known works, the lyrical ‘Morning’ as well as ‘Hall of the Mountain King’ which was composed for Ibsen’s play of the same name but is perhaps now more famous as the unofficial theme tune for Alton Towers!
Soloist Julian Metzger will play Myaskovsky’s Cello concerto accompanied by the orchestra.
The evening will end with Tchaikovsky’s 6th symphony (known as the ‘Pathétique’). Music from this symphony has been used in many films, including ‘Anna Karenina’ and ‘The Aviator’. It was also featured in the closing ceremony for the Winter 2010 Olympics. The reason, of course, is that it is packed full of wonderful tunes.
Tragically, eight days after the premiere of this fabulous symphony, Tchaikovsky was dead. In the words of the composer, the work is ‘the best thing I have ever done’. In any case it is the most deeply felt.
It is certainly guaranteed to bring a tear to the eye of all but the most hard- hearted.
Tickets (full price £12, concessions £10 and under 16’s just £3) should be available on the door but to guarantee yours please call 01908 377518.
