HAVE YOUR SAY
Letters
Kind Regards
Carole Trillian Newport Pagnell
Dear Sir
I have just read the letter in the September edition of the Phonebox regarding ‘The effect of changes in Bury Field’ by an un-named reader. Unfortunately many of the points raised are ridiculous.
To attribute the stupid action by a group who camped and vandalised trees and fences by the river to the installation of the new paths is irresponsible. Whoever the vandalising idiots were they obviously were well aware of the layout of the field as the area in question is not even visible from the paths and is nearly 10 minutes walk from the nearest one. The writer also refers to motorbikes on the field as being a result of the paths. To my knowledge there have not been any motorbikes there for around three years, long before the paths were put in.
I have lived alongside Bury Field for 37 years and have been a regular user of it. From personal experience I have long been annoyed by those who leave rubbish behind them, particularly beer bottles and cigarette packets and have often picked them up myself but this has not changed since the paths upgrade. This is not a park but a common and the paths have only been upgraded from tracks to hard surface to make it easier for disabled access and for parents with push chairs etc. The paths that have been installed also mean that I can now walk to town through the field even in wet weather which I could not do before and I hope others will now follow and also get to know the beauty of our common.
To attribute all the faults of modern society to the short time these paths have been installed is just silly and does not address the underlying causes of antisocial behaviour and to suggest that we now need wardens patrolling would totally destroy the free and open nature of the common.
Yours sincerely

Dear Editor
There is Another Way
I write in response to Mr Peter Badham’s letter in the last issue concerning the matter of High Street shopping in Newport Pagnell and the Tesco debate. Perhaps there is another way...
My partner Neil and I have lived in Newport Pagnell for over 18 years and in light of public opinion about Tesco’s proposed plans in the Town we have teamed up with Merv the greengrocer at Market Hill to introduce a weekly vegetable box delivery scheme for Newport Pagnell. We also have Graham of GJ Douglas butchers on board to offer mixed meat boxes. We are local people offering locally sourced products, delivered free of charge to your door and working with the High Street not against it.
Mr Badham quite rightly talks of those in the Town who do not have transport – why not have your produce delivered to your door at no extra cost and support a Town based initiative? To deliver this service, the one thing we need is for the good people of Newport Pagnell to support the venture. Please be so kind as to register your interest with us either online by visiting www.npfoodbox.co.uk or by calling us directly on 07596 748406, we would be delighted to hear from you.
