Museum Matters
Ernie and The Fat Old Man update
June is traditionally the month
Museum Matters
Evening Each and All
Those of you who don’t know may think that I am writing this from France!!!!
Below is Lisa’s update on Ernie, which explains all. I am sorry that I have had to defer my participation until August but it is for very good reasons, and I
gas talking about what he was going to eat when he woke up again. We are back again in three months. A gap between ops that was unimaginable several months ago. Scary and exciting at the same time!
Thanks to all of you who have sponsored Dad for his London to Paris cycle ride for CHECT (Childhood Eye Cancer Trust). It is with great reluctance that he has had to postpone his ride until 18th August. My step mother, Brenda, has had some post op complications which resulted in her being admitted to hospital for several weeks and this has interferred with Dad’s training. She is lots better now and is back home but it came at a crucial time in Dad's training and he was simply not been able to fit the really long training rides that he was planning to do around hospital visiting and it is not the right time for him to be away right now. He is still training hard and is regularly doing 30-40 odd mile rides and I have no doubt that he will do us all proud in August. For anyone who still wants to sponsor him visit www.justgiving.com/Brian-Thorogood
Lots of love to all

break in the Algarve. We had a normal holiday and didn't need to access any Portugese healthcare at all. The boys had a great time playing on the beach and eating lots of ice cream! We felt like we had a proper break and actually relaxed for what felt like the first time in three years!
Thanks to Maureen, the nurse specialist at Birmingham, we were able to attend a special clinic at Birmingham to see two senior occular prosthetists and they managed to get Ernie's prosthetic eye to fit properly for the first time. It looked so much better straight away, it was amazing. As a result of this clinic we have found out how to access another prosthetist, Anne, who does a clinic in Harlow. We have met her and she is great. We now realise how bad the service we were getting was. Anne has done a colour match and so she has ordered new eyes, which take about 2 months to hand paint at the centre in Blackpool. FIngers crossed in two months we will have a good fit AND a good colour match.
We were back in Birmingham last Friday and Ernie had his usual Examination Under Anaesthetic and there was no growth, so he had no treatment again! This means Ernie has had no treatment in his left eye since last April. Amazing! He was a superstar and really took it all in his stride like a pro, sat bravely waiting for his "stingy eye drops" and chatted quietly as he inhaled the anaesthetic
Should you miss that weekend why not attend the “Coffee in the Courtyard” sessions being held by The Friends on Thursdays 10th and 24th June? Indulge yourself with a slice of delicious home- made cake to accompany your coffee. Both coffee mornings run from 10.30 am – 12 noon. There will also be a second-hand book stall, giving you chance to pick up that book you have always wanted to read. All are welcome. Admission is £2.50 for adults; £1 for children and this includes refreshments.
For lovers of nature, the Three Hares Gallery features an exhibition by the Green family entitled “Landscape and Wildlife” and this will run throughout the month, whilst on the walls of the stairwell in Gilpin House younger artists from local schools continue to display their work based on “John Gilpin” the humorous poem written by “Orchard Side’s” most famous resident, William Cowper.
