Bethune wondered if this would not be more appropriate to the Cowper and Newton Museum, but David said that the museum currently did not have enough space for its own exhibits and the case would be used for temporary exhibitions of artefacts other than those concerning Cowper and Newton.
Continental Market
The feeling amongst members was that the recent continental market had in general been a success, although Tony Evans notes that some stalls were not exactly bona fide European. Debbie Brock said that she had personally enjoyed it but noted that some residents had been in touch with Trading Standards with concerns about pricing and weighing, as any such events must obviously comply with UK regulations. Deidre Bethune said she felt that the event suffered from a sever lack of advertising, since many people did not know that it was on.
Council Website
At this point Tony Evans declared ‘a total disinterest’! However, he was doubtless jesting as he remained in the meeting for the discussion. It appears that three tenders have been received for designing, building and maintaining a new website. Steve Clark observed that it was important that the new site should be ‘future proof’ and one of the applicants had a proven track record in building and maintaining websites. The proposal was agreed with no objections but three abstentions.
Driftway
No meeting of OTC would be complete without this item being on the agenda. Tony Evans noted that the recommended 2 metre strip of verge had been implemented as 1 metre, which meant that it would have to be strimmed rather than mown. He requested that that the council notify MKC that they expect this to happen every time mowing of other verges takes place.
Confidential items
Mercury assumes that the council has now had instruction from Bucks Association of Local Councils (BALC) on procedures concerning confidential items, since this time a vote was taken as to whether the public should be excluded
from the final section of the meeting. As a result Mercury and the remaining members of the public were politely shown the door.
Annual Town Meeting
The Annual Town Meeting will take place at 7.30 on Thursday 29th April at the Olney Centre. As residents of Olney, it is your chance to
come and quiz the council on any issues that concern you.
Council Vacancy
Following the meeting, Mercury was advised by the Town Clerk Gill Edmondson that a vacancy has arisen on the council. Any resident interested in joining the council should contact Gill at the Council Offices on 01234 711679 before the next meeting, which will be held at 7.30pm on Monday 12th April in the Council Chamber in the Olney Centre. Members of the public are always welcome to attend and, if they wish, speak at the start of the meeting, or at any point that the mayor decides is appropriate.
