2nd Olney Brownie Pack - three stories
AS YOU MAY know this year is Girl Guiding’s centenary year. Each girl is challenged to have a “mountain top” moment during the year.
2nd Olney Brownie Pack did just that. Twenty five Brownies along with four leaders and two young leaders had a sleepover at St Peter and St Paul Church in Olney.
We climbed the spiral staircase of the church tower to ring the church bells‚ went for a walk in the dark‚ toasted marshmallows‚ sang campfire songs and had a very enjoyable but tiring sleepover.
Brownie 100 Challenge Sleepover
On Friday the 15th January 2010, the second Olney brownie pack had a sleepover at St Peter and St Paul church, for their 100 years of guiding badge. Firstly, we unpacked and played some games, after that the Sixers went to get fish and chips. On the way to the chip shop, we had a very interesting conversation about brownies and the badges they were given in previous years. Brown Owl has a blanket with her badges sewn on. When we got back with the pack’s dinner, all of the other brownies were sitting around tables ready to eat. When we had finished our meal we went for a walk around the town in the dark, to qualify for our ‘in the dark’ element of the 100 years of Guiding challenge badge. On our return we went up to the bell tower to ring the bells. We rang
the treble bell and watched as Charles Knight rang the Tenor bell (the biggest).
Then we decided to have toasted marshmallows using votive candles and kebab sticks, mine caught fire several times. After this we gathered together around the pretend camp fire with nibbles and hot chocolate in the new welcome area of the church. As we sang songs we went off to bed. However, the Sixers stayed awake until 3am in the morning and woke Brown Owl up! I really enjoyed it and look forward to our next sleepover.

Brownie Sleepover January 15th 2010
On Friday 15th January the 2nd Olney Brownie Pack went to St Peter and St Paul’s Church for a sleepover. First we unpacked our bags, (us sixers had a luxurious suite!) then when our parents had left us sixers went to get fish and chips supper which we ate when we got back. When we had finished our tea we went to the top of the church and rang the bells (that’s what all the noise was if you heard it) afterwards we went for a walk around Olney.
We had a real treat later when we toasted marshmallows over a tiny candle and had a campfire where we sang brownie songs like ‘campfires burning’ and ‘singing in the rain’ and of course our favourite ‘ALICE THE
CAMEL!’ Then we went to bed but don’t stop reading now... during the night we sixers got a bit scared because we kept seeing lights going across the window. In the morning the vicar told us the lights were just cars going by‚ that was a relief! In the morning us sixers had to do the breakfast. Then our parents came to pick us up.

Brownie Sleepover
On Friday 15th January 2010 Olney brownies went to St Peters and St Paul’s church for a sleepover. Firstly we unpacked our bags and set up our beds; then we had tea. After that we rang the church bells they were extremely heavy! We then went to get some fresh air outside. The next thing we did was toasting marshmallows on a candle they were very tasty! Our final adventure was having a campfire. Soon we had to go to bed. When dawn came we had breakfast. After that we went to pack our bags and went home.
