Development East of the M1 Motorway
You often feel that you are beating your head against a wall in politics and then sometimes, just sometimes, something happens that restores your faith in the political system and that something happened this month. The Governments decision to scrap plans to build 4000 plus homes east of the M1 around North Crawley is good news. It would appear that common sense has prevailed and they have finally listened to the concerns of local people. I don’t know exactly what changed the Ministers mind, whether it really was ‘people power’ (and an enormous thank you to all those who did write or sign the petition), or whether it was my pretty direct speech in Parliament or indeed the quiet word with the Minister in the lobby, perhaps it was all of them, but we now have the right decision and the development has been removed from the local plan until 2026 at least. I have written to all local residents within the directly affected area but if anybody requires any further detail please do get in touch with the office.
Spinal Injuries Association
Whilst I visit many organisations in the constituency that do excellent work I would just like to single out the Spinal Injuries Association that I visited in Oldbrook earlier this month along with our new Mayor Cllr Euan Henderson. The association is the UK centre and advice unit for people who have suffered spinal injuries and the work they do in supporting people is simply fantastic, Gwen Pearson and her team deserve our support and thanks.
New Mayor and Deputy Mayor
I would just like to take this opportunity in congratulating two of our Cllr’s within the Phonebox distribution area on their recent appointments, Cllr Debbie Brock on her appointment as Deputy Mayor and Cllr Euan Henderson whose many years of service to Milton Keynes has been recognised in his appointment as Mayor, I am sure that they are both looking forward to a hectic year!
