In last month’s ‘Councillor Corner’, it was stated that Milton Keynes Council’s Cabinet could not be swayed into recommending a support package for Weston Underwood’s Post Office. In reality, the blame for the sad closure of the post office, should be laid at The Post Office’s door! The Council spent some money on exploring various options to see if the post office could be kept open. The Post Office however, was striking a very hard bargain and the Council would have only been able under legislation, to support it for three years!
It is very sad to see such a long-standing family business disappear, but ultimately it is the Government and the Post Office who are to blame. The Council did its best to explore how it could help but decided in the end that it could not.
