THURSDAY MARKET QUESTIONNAIRE
The Thursday market traders in conjunction with Olney Town Council are seeking your views on what you like or what you would like to see done differently on the Thursday Market. Please do take the time to fill in and return the questionnaire (opposite on page 38) your views are really important to keep the Market evolving, improving and continuing to meet your needs.
PETSOE MANOR WINDFARM UPDATE
Friday August 14th delivered a significantly positive step forward for those campaigning against the decision of Milton Keynes Council to grant planning permission for a Windfarm to be built at Petsoe Manor, Emberton. Permission has been given to appeal the decision handed down at the Judicial Review in July. Residents are relieved that finally their concerns are being acknowledged and considered valid. Upon reading this latest instalment the Appeal hearing may have taken place as it is planned for August 29th. We will keep you updated in the next issue.
HOLIDAY BIBLE CLUB
Olney’s Churches joined together to put on the ever popular Holiday Bible Club during the second week of August. Over the course of the week 280 children aged from 5–12 were enjoying activities around this year’s theme of ‘Surfers’ Paradise’. Heaps of praise goes to the organisers and to the 114 adults and teenagers involved with the smooth running of the week.
NORTH EAST AREA FORUM
This is a forum where all Parish Councils, Town Councils and Parish meetings in the Olney and Sherington Wards can discuss issues that affect our area as a whole. Members of the public are welcomed and their comments on the subjects being discussed are valued.
The meetings take place quarterly in varying locations and the next meeting will be at Stoke Goldington Village Hall on Wednesday 17th September at 7.30pm. One topic of discussion should be the proposed expansion threatening to come east of the M1 as well as updates on the Post Office closure programme and Emberton Park. If you would like to take part in the consultation process currently underway into the expansion implications see the link to SE Plan changes http://www.gose.gov.uk/
LICENSE GRANTED
Representing both Olney Town Council and a campaigning local resident, Debbie opposed the application for a license to sell alcohol at 16/17 Market Place Olney. It was felt wholly undesirable for another outlet to be selling alcohol in this area. The license has been granted by the Licensing Committee of Milton Keynes Council with conditions attached including staffing levels and the installation and accessibility of CCTV for evidential purposes.
The same premises now has a planning application for its shop front on the Market Place, if you wish to comment on these plans they will be available at the Civic Offices, Milton Keynes.
SOUTH EAST STAGE OF THE TOUR OF BRITAIN
On the 8th September the world’s best cyclists will be lining up in Milton Keynes for the start of the second stage of the Tour of Britain, this stage runs to Newbury. The start will be at 10am going via Bletchley and Winslow. For more details see www.tourofbritain.co.uk/ southeast
SAD NEWS
At the beginning of the public meeting organised by us in conjunction with the Covington Family to
discuss the threatened Weston Underwood Post Office closure, a packed Village Hall stood to a minutes silence in memory of Cllr Nigel Finn-Kelcey. Nigel had suddenly passed away; he was a man of great generosity and a real friend to Weston Underwood having been a very active member of the community, serving on the Parish Council for over a decade. Nigel will be much missed and our thoughts go out to his family at this sad time. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Nigel for the Biggin Hill Romanian Group this may be made payable and sent to H.W.Mason & Sons. 9, High Street, Newport Pagnell, Bucks MK16 8AR. K
Our surgery will take place on Friday 5th September at The Olney Centre from 7.30–8.30pm, please feel free to come along if we can assist you in any way.
