Dear Editor
I cannot believe the animosity in this town surrounding a possible opening of Tesco. What is the problem? One person said it would make the town ‘hum drum and boring’, but wouldn’t it do just the opposite? I am sick of paying through the nose for produce at the Co-op and other local shops. I pay through the roof to travel to Milton Keynes every week to find a decent supermarket. Not everyone is made of money, and a Tesco will certainly help the majority of the people in this town.
I certainly am embarrassed to those who do not even RESIDE in Olney, complaining about a necessary addition! How dare they?!? “I don't want a Tescos in Olney because I shop there once a week!” What?!?
I am absolutely thrilled at the idea of a Tesco opening and I hope Olney seriously considers opening a Starbucks as well, since ‘humdrum’ pretty much describes the way Olney is currently! And I have lived in Olney for seven years!
I do hope the Phonebox Magazine prints the other side of this argument. Not everyone is against Tescos!!

Dear Editor
Having been born and raised in Olney, I am fed up with people complaining about the proposed Tesco store in the Market Square.
I personally cannot wait for this to happen. It seems the people complaining have only lived in Olney for a short time or just visit. Not everyone is fortunate to have a car to go out of Town to do their shopping, so it will be nice to have another choice of shop.
Thank you to the Town Council if they were responsible for hopefully making this happen.
An Olneyite Dear Editor
I can understand about the problem of cars speeding through the cattle market car park and that it needed to be stopped, but now the new bollards have been installed it is very difficult to come out of the car park.
For instance, if you cannot find a parking space you have to reverse all the way back and onto a main road. Surely we could have had bollards that could be put in place of an evening so that the traffic in the car park could get out of there in a much more safer manner. A three point turn is awkward with traffic behind you and little space to manoeuvre.
C Mynard, Olney Dear Editor
At the moment residents of Olney have a limited choice of shops. As a result those shops are at liberty to charge whatever they choose. Customers have either to accept those prices or go further a field. Having a Tesco in town is likely to make our existing shops more competitive and give shoppers a greater range of goods.
I tend to use the existing shops as a stop gap and do my main shop elsewhere. I suspect that many residents do likewise. Any development that encourages people to come into the town must be good.
It is my belief that the Town has more to gain from a Tesco shop or indeed any additional business.
