Ian Sings a Song for the MK Dons
Local full time musician Ian Roberts has written a song for the MK Dons, and just in time for their trip to Wembley in the Johnstones Paint Trophy Final on Sunday 30 March.
Ian from Weston Underwood has been writing songs since he was given his first guitar at the age of fourteen, but he has never before had a response like this.
“My phone hasn’t stopped ringing since I played the song live for the first time on the MK Breakfast Show radio station, I think that’s because it’s a great catchy tune.”
First to contact Ian was the local newspapers, followed swiftly by none other than Anglia television, who popped along to the recording studio where Ian was cutting the song, to conduct an interview and film Ian performing the song.
“It really has been manic,” said Ian “I originally recorded the song as a demo at a friend’s house, but for the last two days I’ve been in a great studio with top producer Phil English, he heard me playing the song live on Horizon Radio and contacted me to ask if I wanted to record it properly, he’s local to Milton Keynes and a Dons fan, he loved the song so much he hasn’t charged me for his services. And now here I am doing interviews, it’s all a bit mad really. I’ve an interview with BBC Look East this week, and I’ve been in contact with Soccer AM who are trying to find a slot for me to play live on the show before the final. The interest in the song has been amazing.”
Ian wrote the song called GO:Milton Keynes, almost two years ago, but never seemed to have the time to record it, but once the MK Dons made the final he decided it was about time he did.
“I wrote the bones of the song whilst I was literally strolling down the Boulevards one summer’s day in CMK whistling, just as the lyrics say, I had this tune going round in my head, so when I returned home I picked up my guitar and just finished the song there and then, it
was completed in about ten minutes, I’ve changed a few words since then, but it’s still the same song.”
Ian is hoping that the MK Dons fans adopt his song as their very own anthem, and that it becomes the official song for the Dons, not just for Wembley, but for a lifetime.
“I’m a Dons fan, and
it’s always a good
atmosphere at Stadium MK, it’s a great family friendly club, so to hear the crowd sing my song would be a dream come true. I have spoken to Pete Winkelman the MK Dons Chairman, and he said he loved the song, he asked if I would mind if they played it at the stadium before a home game, I almost fell off my chair, and of course I said yes. As I said, the response to the song has been brilliant, I put it on myspace just over a week ago and we have had over 3,500 hits already, which is incredible.”
