Fishing season on rivers ends on Friday 14 March, so only a few more weeks to improve our specimen fish weights. Best recorded weights to date are: Barbel 12lb 14oz; Bream 8lb 2oz (only 3oz below Club record!); Carp 21lb 4oz; Chub 5lb 6oz; Perch 2lb 12 oz; Pike 9lb 10oz and Tench 7lb 6oz.
With river levels so variable it is inevitable that match weights are ʻpatchyʼ. Even so, we were fortunate, sometimes, to get favourable conditions and some good match results. The RBL Cup match was won by George Kay with 35lb 12oz of Chub and £80 was donated.
Paul Caton won the Fiesta Cup match with 25lb 5oz, including Chub to 5lb 7oz and 5lb 2oz. Ernie Sattler won the Citizen Cup with 18lb 1oz and Paul Hamilton had 9lb 11oz to win the G Payne Memorial Cup at the Christmas match.
The ever-consistent Jason Todd is 90% certain to be the Clubʼs Points Champion. The final round is at the Knight Shield match on 3 February. Our last charity match is for Willen Hospice on Sunday 17 February.
Pleasure fishers, match and specimen anglers are invited to join our Club. Thanks to local landowners we control nearly three and a half miles of river, giving a nice variety of angling possibilities.
Youngsters are encouraged to fish; we have two qualified coaches and three junior-only matches.
