News From Lavendon School
Hedge Planting
Pictured here are children from Class 2 who helped to plant the new hedge along the front of the school. Twenty shrubs were donated by the Woodland Trust and, hopefully, as they grow they will look attractive against the front wall as well as providing a safety barrier. The children, though happy at the thought of gardening, seemed to be far more interested in planting than digging which was left to the staff who helped!
Christmas Performance
The school Christmas Concert proved to be as popular as always, everyone who attended St Michael’s Church thoroughly enjoyed the children’s singing and recitation. Every child took part in some way. Pictured here are some of the children.
Pantomime Visit
The whole school attended the Pantomime at the Derngate Theatre in Northampton. This year the Pantomime was Peter Pan. Two coaches of very excited children (and staff!) left at lunchtime on January 9th to enjoy an afternoon of fun at the Derngate. Audience participation was expected – oh yes it was! – and several of our children sang confidently on stage with Captain Smee. An excellent time was had by everyone; we are very grateful to the LSA who support this outing financially.
Playground Refurbishment
Work will begin towards the end of January on a new playground at the school. We are having the patio area totally revamped, a new all weather surface installed for Class1, and some new play equipment fitted which we hope will give our children many years of stimulating play. The construction of the playground is expected to be completed by Easter with the new play equipment being purchased as soon as possible and we very much look forward to admiring the finished result.
League Tables
Key Stage Two SATs tables were published in the newspapers recently. Lavendon had fewer than 11 pupils taking the tests last year, so our results were not shown. However, because all our Year 6 pupils achieved Level 4 or higher in English, Mathematics and Science, we would have been in 1st place in the Milton Keynes table when ranked by aggregate score and 5th by CVA score. Well done to all last year’s Year 6 and to everyone who taught them during their time here at Lavendon. K
