Tackling anti-social behaviour in Newport Pagnell
As many will be aware, Newport Pagnell had a ‘Dispersal Order’ in place for a six month period, ending on 1st December 2007.
The ‘order’ was granted by a senior police officer from Milton Keynes and the Chief Executive from Milton Keynes Council after evidence was given to them of continued acts of anti-social behaviour in and around the town.
The ‘order’ itself gave the police extra powers to move on groups that were or had been acting in an anti-social manner and was aimed at dealing with low level acts, that themselves did not cross the line into criminal acts.
As one of the officers involved in the policing of the town, I feel that the dispersal order had a positive effect and reduced incidents (or at least escalation of incidents), however, a formal analysis of the period is being carried out by Inspector Helen Corbett and this should give more than just a ‘gut feeling’.
I would like to thank many of the youths in the town who I spoke to during the last six months for the way they obeyed the instructions given to them and indeed the attitude shown when it was explained how their behaviour could affect others.
That said, dealing with anti-social behaviour is still a top priority for residents of the town, as told to us in a recent survey.
As such, anti-social behaviour will be one of the first issues being looked at by the Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) that was set up in early January 2008.
The NAG will comprise representatives of the police, Milton Keynes Council, Newport Pagnell Town Council and residents to address issues raised by the community as part of the ‘Safer Communities Partnership’.
Details of the NAG and what they are doing will be published in the future.

The AGM for our Bowls Club will be held in our Village Hall, on Wednesday, 5th March, 2008, at 8.00pm, when a review of our past year’s successes will be held, as well as appointing our new committee for the ensuing year. In addition to these normal annual activities, we shall also be examining the way forward, and setting plans for the future advancement and development of our club.
Although we are a relatively small club, we are recognised by our bowling neighbours, both within and beyond Bucks County, as having a top-grade green, a number of players who compete at County level, and are also well known for our ‘entertainment’, both during and after our friendly matches against visiting teams.
One of our first objectives for the 2008 season (starting in April) is to recruit and expand our current membership. Our AGM will be an opportunity to hear more about North Crawley Bowls Club, and to meet our members. So we would welcome anyone who is contemplating taking up bowling, or is already a player, and ask that you join us in our Village Hall on Wednesday, 5th March. If you would like further details, please ring me at the number below. Should I be out, please leave your number and name, and I shall call back as soon as I can.
