A glorious sunny day greeted the Middle School’s four teams arriving at Milton Keynes Bowl to compete against 21 other schools in the 2007/08 District Schools Cross Country Heats. Cllrs. Chris Ford and Paul Watson both attended the event held on Saturday 3 November, to see how our teams performed. Each team had six runners with the first four finishers counting to determine team placing. First to set off round the course and tackle the steep hill were the Junior Girls. They all did really well with Anna achieving a magnificent 3rd place and the team coming 3rd overall.
The Junior Boys were next and they carried on the good start made by the girls with Oliver racing into an early lead. Joe then came into contention and at the end Oliver finished 2nd and Joe 4th with the team also finishing in 3rd place.
After two excellent performances by the juniors it was the turn of the seniors. They did not disappoint and in the Senior Girls Jess just ran away from the rest of the field winning by a clear 15 seconds. Jess clearly inspired the rest of the team as they ran out overall team winners.
The final race was the Senior Boys who had a grueling 2000m run ahead of them. Once again the whole team had terrific runs with William leading the way with a well-earned 2nd place and team coming 1st overall.
With some great individual and team performances Olney Middle School go into the finals at the Open University in 1st place after the first round of qualifying heats. Congratulations must also go to the Head Teacher, Alison Waspe and the teaching staff of Claire Glennie, Mark Nicholls, and Rebecca Walker who were all at the Bowl to assist the Manager of Cross Country and Athletics, Rachel Harper. q
