‘icons’ of our times must surely mark them down as little more than a collision between a diarrhea of colour and a constipation of thought.
So don’t go to London, support your local artists. Just think of the pleasure you will gain from telling your grandchildren “Yes I knew the artist and indeed I commissioned the painting.” Yes of course some good work does find its way to London and at least one fairly local artist is already selling well in the USA, many of his most
successful works selling over there describe Olney and the surrounding villages. But David Hyde will readily tell that he had to start at the local level.
One of our several artists’ societies recently held an exhibition at The Swan Revived in Newport Pagnell. A friend was exhibiting so it was particularly easy to make time and get myself along. The quality on show was varied in the extreme because some people only think they can paint, but at least they have the courage to try; some of what I saw almost convinced me that maybe I ought even now to thus dare. In practice I meekly turned my camera towards some of the show. I especially liked the harbour-scape put up by my friend Carol Bryan. See what you think here but just don’t miss your next opportunity to view the wide ranging talents around us here in North Bucks. GB
