Olney Bridge Club
Do you like to exercise your brain? Do you like to play cards? The Bridge Club meets every Monday at The Olney Centre in High Street. Membership is only £5 and weekly ‘table money’ of £1.50. Tea and biscuits are provided and non-members pay £2.
People new to Olney and local villages with experience of playing bridge are most welcome. Also anybody taking bridge lessons and ‘improvers’ are invited to get more experience and practice in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere.
Partners can often be arranged, by prior agreement.
Interested? Phone David Partridge on 01234 240061.
On Yer Bike!
Why is it that the current government’s promotion of a healthy lifestyle initiative hasn’t yet arrived in Warrington, Lavendon and Olney?
On the track of the elusive cyclepath from Warrington and Lavendon to our neighbouring market town of Olney, Parish Councillors and residents at the North East Bucks Area Forum held in Lavendon on Wed 26 September, listened with great interest to reports from Milton Keynes Council and councillors.
It was with no surprise that we learnt the government provide no extra cash for developing or maintaining footpaths or cyclepaths for which we would like to enjoy our healthy lifestyle. Indeed the lifestyle we have actively been pursuing for far longer than the current government.
Since our two villages enjoy no such connection to Olney and our children now attend their secondary education at the Ousedale Olney Campus the way forward would seem to be to promote a cyclepath as a safe and healthy means of transporting them to school.
To this end both Lavendon and Warrington Parish Councils are inviting you to register your support by either writing direct to the Councillor responsible for Transport at Milton Keynes Council: Cllr. Chris Williams, 10 Rhuddlan Close, Shenley Church End, Milton Keynes MK5 6EL. Tel: 01908 503717. Email: chris.williams1@milton- keynes.gov.uk, or alternatively, by signing a petition currently held at Lavendon Stores.
Our local roads are regularly used as ‘rat runs’ and are irregularly maintained according to budget. Consequently for the occasional cyclist it is necessary to take your life in your hands when contemplating a ride to Olney on your bike. We have never had the luxury of a direct footpath from either village and therefore we feel ‘cut off’, hence our current battle to win favour in the next round of budget considerations. Please support us!
