News from the MK Mayor
August has been a reasonably quiet month. At the end of July we had a real fun day at the Stadium MK when they hosted the Alan Ball Memorial match. Prior to that game we watched the ‘Soaps match’ and were pleased to meet many of the stars from Corrie and Eastenders.
As an Honorary Scout I was pleased to attend the Sunrise ceremony in MK, although it was an early start!
The Broughton Fire Station annual Open Day was indeed an eye opener! They gave a demonstration of just how much damage is caused by trying to put out a chip pan fire with just half a cup of water – it certainly made me and many others jump back from the demo when the flames shot out!
We attended the Peace Pagoda birthday celebrations and later in the month the Lantern ceremony by Willen Lake. Sadly, we were back at the Temple a week afterwards to attend the funeral of the Chief Monk, the Rev Handa, who had had a tragic accident whilst cutting the grass.
During the month I also had the opportunity to bring alive every small boy’s dream when I drove a steam engine (albeit a model one). There is a new track operating on Sundays at the Caldecote Pub by the lake (the Pub with the windmill) and I was asked to go along and open their new bridge. I know the children would enjoy it and it’s a good day out.
The children are now back at school and everything is shifting up a gear. The Mayor’s diary is getting
fuller and life is becoming more
hectic, but still fun.
