Councillor Corner
A contribution from Councillor Debbie Brock
ST PETER AND ST PAUL, OLNEY
Whilst the Church piers have received press coverage recently, negotiations with the Council to get repairs sorted out have been ongoing for much longer. Olney Parish Churchyard is designated as a closed Churchyard; as a result it is the Council who are responsible for its upkeep. Budgets are limited for dealing with repairs, although in the case of the gate piers money has been identified and talks are ongoing with the PCC to progress matters. Hopefully evidence of work should soon be seen on both the piers and pathways.
TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE OF PART OF HIGH STREET LAVENDON
I have received warning of a temporary closure of the A428 to enable resurfacing works to take place on part of Lavendon’s High Street. The closure dates are expected to be from 30th July until 6th August and the closure from the A428/A509 round- about to its junction with the B565 Cold Brayfield. Whilst the road is closed the alternative route will be via the B565 Olney Road, Cold Brayfield to the A509 Whirly Pit roundabout and up to the Warrington roundabout and vice versa.
Following immediately after that road closure and possibly up until August 9th, another stage of resurfacing work will be carried out on the B565 Olney to Cold Brayfield road necessitating another temporary closure. Traffic will then be diverted via Lavendon and the Warrington Roundabout.
Following on from there, Silver End and the immediate part of East Street to its junction
with Coneygere will be closed on Wednesday 8th August and Friday 10th August from 09.30 to 18.30 to enable for more road resurfacing.
CHAIRMAN OF LAVENDON PARISH COUNCIL
After nine years leadership, Councillor Nigel Alexander stepped down from the Parish Council at July’s Meeting in Lavendon. Nigel wishes to free up more time to spend with his family and on other favourite pastimes. Good Luck Nigel in all that you do and to new Chairman, Councillor Kate Porter and her deputy Councillor Richard Farrar.
BOLLARDS AT THE CATTLE MARKET CAR PARK
Following incidents of vehicular antisocial behaviour at the Cattle Market car park a deterrent is shortly to be implemented to curb the whacky races circuit. One entrance to the car park will be barred
with the removal of several parking spaces to allow for a turning area. Whilst it is unfortunate to loose any spaces and where the change will affect all users to the car park, residents living nearby have been experiencing disturbed nights due to the inconsiderate actions of a small minority of people.
NEW ROAD LAYOUT IN WEST STREET
I’ve had comments from residents taken by surprise by the narrowing of the road at
West Street at the new development. The council have undertaken to conduct a safety audit in the wake of these new works, and I will provide an account of those findings when I have them.
BUMPS AND BABIES
With some new faces amongst the National Childbirth Trust organisation locally, a session is being run on Monday mornings for new mums to be, and those with babies up to a year old. The Sutcliffe Baptist Chapel is the venue and the time is from 10.30 until 11.30am – the first gathering was very well attended, babies were able to meet and ladies able to swap experiences and advice. In August, due to summer events at the Baptist Chapel, Bumps and Babies will not meet for the first or last Monday of the month. Coffee, tea and biscuits and plenty of chat all for £1.50, just turn up or contact Rebecca on 01234 241858.
