Earls Barton Rally and Country Fayre
Hopefully as you read this the weather will be more summer like, i.e., warm sunny and DRY, and less like the monsoon we've had throughout June and start of July! We are keeping our fingers, and
everything else, crossed that we will be among the lucky ones to have good weather in the lead up to and during our event! This year the rally will be celebrating its 10th anniversary.
We are planning a bumper weekend of entertainment and enjoyment for you, with star billing going to the Portsmouth Area VCC Field Gun Display team manned (and probably womaned!) by Royal Naval cadets. This promises to be a highly competitive event, comprising of two teams battling it out to dismantle a field gun, run with the components and re-assemble them against each other, and the clock. Any of you who have watched this being done at the Royal Tournament, or who followed the ups and downs of 'Tasha' on the BBC1 series 'Shipmates' last year, will know the energy and commitment made by the teams and the honour involved; it promises to be a real spectacle.
All the usual ingredients will be there from the countryside area to vehicle displays, both static and in the ring; threshing and horse powered ploughing demonstrations, with a tractor ploughing match on the Sunday; traditional fairground rides and entertainment for the children; trade and craft stands, the latter in a marquee; beer tent – yes even at a steam rally it will be non smoking – and refreshments. This year we have our largest ever entry of model steamers, look out for them, they come in all shapes and sizes and are miniature works of engineering art. The vintage auction takes place on Saturday morning, so if you have any old tools, machinery or whatever 'Cash in the Garage' could be yours! K
The rally takes place at Mick Whites Nurseries over the August Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday 25th to Monday 27th, opening at 10am each day till 6pm. Free car parking, disabled facilities, suitable for buggies and wheelchairs. Admission: £5 adults, £3 senior citizens, £2 children, family ticket 2 + 2 £12 .
For any further information please ring Mick Higham event organiser on 01604 811633.

Ist Newport Pagnell Guides on the Move!
After 25 years at Tickford Park Primary School, the 1st Newport Pagnell Guides have a new venue and a new night to meet. They now meet on Monday evenings from 7pm to 9pm (8.30pm in the winter months) at PORTFIELDS COMMUNITY CENTRE, WORDSWORTH AVENUE, NEWPORT PAGNELL.
Jane Tillman, Guide leader, said: “For some time now we have been looking at the problem of both Newport Pagnell Guide units meeting not only on the same night, but also on the same site, therefore not offering any choice to members. Our new meeting place offers some great facilities, including a kitchen and a garden, so increasing the variety of activities we can offer.”
The 1st Newport Pagnell Guide unit, which celebrated its 85th birthday in June, actively welcomes girls age ten to 14 (you don't have to have been a Brownie), why not come along and see what we do? Contact Jane Tillman on 01908 310829 or email jane.tillman@yahoo.co.uk for more information. K
