When you read this Christmas will be a distant memory. The Trustees and committee of the Olney-Newton Link would like to thank all who have supported us in different ways over the last few months in our efforts to raise money for the people of Newton in Sierra Leone. As a result we have been able to send a computer and some more books and we will be sending at least £2500 for the Shelter Project. The ’Lights for Newton’ project has also been successful and has resulted in funding for six solar powered lights for use by the schools and the clinic.
SKILLS DAY
Skills Day on March 24th 2007 is moving on apace with over 30 different businesses and organisations in the town agreeing to take part. In a recent set of minutes of a committee meeting held in Newton the
secretary, Abu Bakarr Fofana, reports “The tailoring has now started. The difficulty is the availability of free space. The space we have is too small. The tutor also reported that (for) most of the machines spare parts will be needed. Only six machines are
working properly. Tables will be needed for both computer and tailoring. For the computer tutorials will commence as soon as the computers are available.”
Please do come
along and support the crafts people of Olney. There will be an amazing range of talent on view and all the money raised will go towards the provision of a Skills Training Centre in Newton. If you would like to help on Skills Day and have an hour or so to spare please let us know.
