HAVE YOUR SAY
Letters
Dear Editor
I have just read with interest the January issue of Phonebox, what an excellent informative magazine. Like Sue Jones from Newport Pagnell I too am very new to the area, mine being Denton. I moved here to be near to my daughter after my husband died in March.
I wondered if any of your readers could suggest activities that I might be able to follow. I am a young at heart 70 year old and love being out and about and mixing with people. I belonged to the Women's Institute before I moved but I understand the Denton one is unfortunately closing. I also used to be a Group Travel Organiser, purely on a voluntary basis, proceeds going to charity. I hope once I get settled to resume my work in that field, it's just a question of knowing where to start. I look forward to more issues of Phonebox.
Kind regards, Joyce McCann

Dear Editor
I would like to make your readers aware of a dangerous dog we encountered recently.
We were walking our dog on its lead at about 9.00pm on Christmas day on Barnfield, Olney (close to where the new school is being built) when a medium-size black dog suddenly appeared and, without any provocation, made straight for our dog, a ten-year-old beagle. The attacking dog grabbed our dog on the right shoulder and despite strenuous efforts on my part refused to let go at first. The attacking dog maintained an aggressive stance even after I managed to separate them. Shortly afterwards we saw the dog's owners approaching. They must have been aware of what had happened but made no apology and would have walked on by if I hadn't challenged them.
The following day our dog was unable to walk and was obviously in great pain. We then discovered a deep and infected puncture wound caused by
the attacking dog's teeth and had no option but to take him
to the vet who flushed the wound and prescribed
antibiotics.
I provide these details in the hope that the dog and its owners can be identified and action taken to prevent attacks to other dogs, or perhaps children.
Yours sincerely, Roger N. Broadhurst Dear Editor
I am wondering whether the wind in the last two months would have been too much (or the wrong type) for the proposed Wind Farms?
Yours sincerely, Nick French, Westside, Olney
