Dear Editor
Dear Ron
Following Harry Brown Jnr’s horrific car accident which was on October 20th 2004, where he broke his legs and had five operations. To help with his rehabilitation he was advised by his Consultant and Physiotherapist to have a goal and after this last operation he thought it would be perfect to take part in the Great Wall of China Walk, which raises money for Macmillan Cancer Relief, which is Browns charity, and Tobi Brown his brother decided to support him on this trek.
To make this happen, Harry and Tobi need to raise £6000 for Macmillan Cancer by 14th July 2006. At present we have reached £2,900, but still have a long way to go.
We are asking for your help in hitting this target and ask you to give generously for a good cause.
Many Thanks.

Bonjour from France
I understand that there is a vacancy for a cook in your establishment. Wish to be considered (only joking!). I hope that you, the family and Yvonne are well. Please say hello to the regulars for me. I hope that things continue well for you. Here life is busy, hot and fun. Carys has been at school now for four months and her French is improving. We have been busy with guests and bookings are good for the summer. It seemed strange at first but I think we are settled in now.
We have had guests from Olney, and it is always good to hear news from our old town. Some of this is sad, we were so sorry to hear of the death of our friend Jo Atkins, a while ago now. We spoke to friends at the time and indeed to Rob – our best wishes go to the family. We have friends visiting in July and so we willl keep up with the news from the town and the school. Carys misses her old friends but is making new ones. The previous owners of our property have been so much help to us during our settling in period, and have introduced us to our neighbours both French and English. I enjoy the mix of nationalities we have had staying – German, French, English, Australian, American, Belgian, Dutch, Malaysian and Italian so far. Breakfast conversations can be interesting. I have not yet developed the La Barde five item special yet! Maybe soon! We have cooked some evening meals for guests, and our guest book is saying that people like staying with us. We hope that this continues.
Our car is now registered as French, even though Bronwen insists on leaving the GB sticker in the back. She says that it means French drivers give her special attention as a Foreign Driver – good or bad I do not know. Carys takes the bus to school in the morning and sometimes the evening. It travels through the villages picking up the children. One of the other big differences is the school meals. She gets a three course, school cooked meal each day. The menu is sent to parents a month in advance so that we do not cook the same thing in the evening. She also has to take in her serviette to school each week. All a bit different to the packed lunch! It is lovely being in the heart of the countryside. My morning commute is much different from my two hour journey to London (apart from my time walking the length of the High Street to the Cafe) as I just follow the river for five minutes to the Bakers for the daily croissants, pain au chocolate and baguettes. It is hard work, but interesting. We have to make the most of the season, but a reward each day is a walk with our dog Tara and a swim in the pool. We hope to be back at Christmas although Bronwen is flying back for two weeks work soon. In the meantime of course we are open to visits – please email for details of availability!
Best wishes to all. Steve, Bronwen, Carys and Tara
