We have had a few people pop into our offices showing concern about the demise of the stopover of the X2 bus service from Northampton to Bedford which calls at Olney.
There are a lot of people out there with little means of transport to the shops in Olney other than this bus service. The providers of this service have a duty to people in the villages to maintain a reasonable service. We talk about getting on our bikes and using the car less and then allow the decline of a service which could encourage certainly less use of the car, notice of this decline in the service has come when the weather is hot and the summer is here, and perhaps we take less notice. Let us keep a watchful eye on the level of service that is to replace the one taken away.
Olney sorting office has finally suffered the fate that was predicted several months ago. No more, it seems, popping down to pick up that item that could not be put in the letterbox. Time to jump in the car again, I hear, to pop through to Newport to pick up that item, let’s hope it’s not junk mail.

Our website www.phoneboxmagazine.co.uk, which is in the process of being revamped, is up and running as we speak. It has an area for pictures that have been taken that we don’t have room for in the magazine, plus it will be updated with pictures and stories as events take place, on an ‘as happens’ basis. We have an advertisers’ area which can be linked to their websites so you can get the full benefit of what our advertisers have to offer.
A copy of each Phonebox will be viewable using Adobe pdf format starting with the June issue (with some historical stories, pictures and articles from previous editions also appearing). Clubs and Societies, and our usual Useful Numbers will also be featured.
If anyone wants a colour print out in any of our galleries just email us and we will be able to provide you with a picture from 6x4 up to A0 in full colour and laminated if required.
If you need multiple copies we can provide these also.
In our Print area we have examples of past jobs that we have produced to give you all an idea of what we get up to here when we’re not working on the Phonebox.
What to look out for in next month’s magazine:
Traka - John Kent, managing director of Traka, guided the firm to receiving the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2004. Next month we will be telling you a bit more about this successful Olney company and the award itself.
