The January meeting opened with a warm welcome from the President, Jill Boardman, to everyone, particularly the six new members. Following the presentation of a beautiful Orchid buttonhole to the January birthday ladies, Doris Kent presented the President with a badge of office in the shape of a very attractive silver brooch. Rachel and Claire Linton were the speakers for the evening. Last August they journeyed to Sierra Leone r a first hand look at the progress being made at Newton in the rebuilding of houses, this project having been funded by Olney residents. The talk was illustrated by slides. Rachel and Claire's enthusiasm r Sierra Leone, this devastated but courageous country, and its people, was apparent and Claire will be returning later this year.
