Editorial
Welcome to the month of June. A lot is going on this month, not least, and dare I mention it, the EU Vote; which is something we’ve all been waiting for with baited breath for the last heaven knowns how long... I would suspect the promise of a Referendum has become the biggest nightmare of the present Government. In or Out, Remain or Leave is the question, and that’s not just for David Cameron, it’s for us to decide. Well we’ve had plenty of letters and editorials from the Leave campaign which we have printed a few; and one that looks at both sides of the argument. But we haven’t had anything from a Remainer.... So, is that an indication of how the area feels?
Talking of leaving, we have seen several of our elected officials leave their respective posts in the area this month. Keith McLean, Mayor of Milton Keynes, is one. I must admit that it seems that every event Phonebox has been to, and a lot we haven’t, Keith has been. He has put in a tremendous amount of work in the last year and we thank him for that.
Olney’s Mayor Steve Clark has handed in his Chain of Office after five years in what has become a bit of a hot seat recently in Olney. Well done to Steve for his service to the council and the people of Olney. Newport Mayor Phil Winsor, whom we also thank for his articles for the past year, has also handed over his Chain of Office to Liberal Democrat Councillor Derek Eastman who was elected Newport town Mayor for 2016, but not before he handed over three citizens awards to Joan Rose, Kath Murrer and Alan Mills for their voluntary work the Newport at their annual Town Meeting. Well done to everybody involved. Councillor Douglas McCall should also get a mention on his re-election as representative for Newport Pagnell South with a very good result at the polls.
So things change and it is our freedom to vote that helps allow that to happen. So, in or out, make sure you vote on June 23rd, and don’t let the scaremongers affect your decision. Vote for what You want.
