Editorial
Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, had an idea in 1956 for a youth awards programme that recognised adolescents and young adults for completing a series of self-improvement exercises. That vision, called The Duke of Edinburgh Award programme, has expanded from our shores to encompass over 144 other nations.
HRH The Earl of Wessex, a Trustee and Gold Award holder, visited Ousedale School in Newport Pagnell as part of its Diamond Anniversary. The Earl of Wessex is travelling around the UK to celebrate the hard work of DofE volunteers and the successes of DofE participants.
Ousedale School in Newport Pagnell is one such institution that has matched that vision and has been recognised for the outstanding work it has done and the invaluable role it has played in developing its young people.
The school has increased the number of pupils taking part from 50 to 200 in just six months. This is due in part to their vision for Ousedale School to involve more students in extra-curricular activities. The school can only be highly commended for their efforts in this matter. Talking of visions, The Vision, a Newport Pagnell band has reformed and played The Sunset Lounge at The Cannon recently. A great night of music was had by all who attended. Read Ian Roberts’ review on page 16 of the magazine; so make sure you put them on your list of must-see bands for this year.
