Olney Markets
Olney is a true market town with an excellent centrally situated Market Place where we have a very well attended weekly market with a rich charter history every Thursday.
The monthly farmers’ market held on the first Sunday is a more recent addition and attracts local producers with a very wide range of produce.
Outdoor markets generally find trading conditions very tough, and some have ceased to exist, but in Olney we still have two very good markets. But, if the local community doesn’t support and use them, there is the risk that one or both could close. So the motto is “Use it or lose it!”
The Thursday stall holders set up very early and are open for business by 7.00am and continue until 3.30pm in the winter and 4.30pm in the summer
The farmers’ market is from 9.00am until 1.00pm on the first Sunday of the month.
Both markets bring shoppers in from Olney and the surrounding villages and make for a happy meeting place. So if you are not already a user of the markets come down and give them your support. There are stalls selling hot food on both markets, so during the summer months especially, make it a lunch time break as well as the shopping.
April 3rd is the next Sunday farmers’ market so bring the family and enjoy the camaraderie of a local outdoor market.
