Planning Your Wedding
Preparing for a wedding is such an exciting, happy time but can also be very daunting. There are a lot of things that need booking, organising and planning – read on to make sure you remember every little detail.
The Date
It’s important to think about which month you’d like your wedding to be. Bear in mind the weather that comes alongside the season as this will very much influence your dress and choice of flowers. Also remember that many venues book up quickly, so once you’ve got the perfect date, book it with your dream venue as soon as possible!
The Flowers
Visit or contact local florists and flower farms to discuss their selection of flowers. Many will be happy for you to organise a meeting with them to discuss your ideas. If you prefer British-grown flowers, consider the time of year you will be getting married, as not all flower varieties will be available. Finally, think about the selection of bouquets and arrangements you need, including your own bouquet, bridesmaids’ bouquets, buttonholes, pew ends and table decorations.
Your Dress
Start researching as early as possible for inspiration and ideas. Try to decide which styles and cuts you like - visit a variety of
dress shops and don’t be scared to try some on! Also take into account the time of year and weather. It’s useful to look at various photos of dresses to decide whether you like beading, sequins, lace, embroidery, or simpler, minimalist styles.
Colour Schemes
Deciding on the colour scheme of your wedding early can be very useful. It means you can let florists, dressmakers and guests know exactly what you would like... The earlier the better! Also think about the particular colours you like or that have a meaning to you, and colours that work nicely together. Even using paint colour charts can be great for this, as you can compare various tones.
Transport
One of the most important questions about transport is: what do you want to travel to the venue in? Think about the pros and cons of different types of transport. If you’ve got your heart set on a horse and carriage, consider the time of year and weather related to that season. Also, it’s a good idea to make sure all your guests have information about travel options to and from the venue.
The Venue
Consider where you’d like your wedding; maybe a particular location has a special meaning to you and your family. Ask yourself: will guests be able to travel to the venue easily? And what do you want from the venue in terms of scenery, views or space?
