Tales of wizardry, legends and a typical modern-day teenager collide in Peter Farrier and The Swordstone.
The author, Graham Ledward, lived in Gayhurst for seven years and is now based just outside Towester in Northamptonshire.
The first in a series of historical fantasies, the novel is loosely based on the well-known myth of Camelot. But there’s an epic struggle between two warlocks. In Graham’s version of the kingdom, Merlin isn’t the only wizard wielding a wand.
As Mordred’s barbaric army crushes Camelot, he casts one last desperate spell. More than 1600 years later, and the unremarkable Peter Farrier stumbles into to the doomed citadel after awakening the spell on a school trip.
He finds himself travelling across Europe in the midst of the dark ages, but will Peter unlock the kingdom’s deepest secret? And discover what the riddle in the swordstone means?
In 2012, Graham, after a career in retail, banking and the public sector that spanned three decades, decided to take a leap into the uncertain world of creative writing.
He said: “My wife and I had our first child in early 2012, and the London commute with seventy hour weeks wasn’t compatible with being the kind of father I wanted to be.
“So I turned my attention to my first love - writing - and Swordstone was published last summer. The sequel - Peter Farrier and the Dragonstower - has just been released too.”
