5. Shortly turn left in to New Street, at the bottom of the road turn right in to Russell Street, cross the road and keep right but in a few yards turn left into Vicarage Way. Follow this to the end and then continue on to the pathway between the playing fields and school, at the crossway of paths keep straight on and follow the path round to the right to where it joins Queen Eleanor Street. Keep to the right hand side, cross Ryeland and follow the road round to the roundabout. Caution here and cross over to the left and pass under the A5 road bridge.
6. Keeping to the left hand side of the Stratford Road for about 300 yards and then opposite Harnett Drive take the signed footpath left through a kissing gate into a field. Follow the path diagonally right to pass to the left of Old Wolverton Church (this is the site of the medieval village of Wolverton and also a Motte and Bailey castle). Once past the church follow the path diagonally across the field to return to the Old Wolverton Road and then left over the canal bridge to return to your car.
We hope that you have enjoyed this walk please remember to close all gates after you and to take any litter home.
It should be noted that there is the possibility of cattle and sheep in the fields during the walk, so dogs should be kept on a lead at this time.
Special thanks to our dear friends Liz Fields, and Julie and Alan Smith for showing us this walk.
The idea behind these occasional walks is to encourage us to visit our neighbouring towns and villages and to enjoy their surrounding countryside, the different seasons can greatly effect the scenery, with delightful flowers in the meadows and woodlands in spring time, wild fruit in autumn and crisp clear frosty days in winter can often increase the distance you can see as well as blowing away those winter cobwebs. Reversing the walks can also give different views that you might miss in one direction and adds another walk to your repertoire.
All of our walks can be traced using the Ordnance Survey Explorer Maps No’s: 192/207/208/223/224 these contain a wealth of information for planning walks within the Phonebox catchment and nearby local area. We hope that you enjoy this walk, please remember to close all gates after you and to take any litter home.
