What’s on in the entertainment world this October Mischa Allen
Teeth-gnashing dinosaurs and amateur productions
Anight of bourbon, family and relationships is tackled in Tennessee William’s Pultilzer prize-winning Cat On A Hot Tin Roof at the Northampton Royal & Derngate, which is at the theatre until October 18. Brimming with emotions, the drama sees a family scrambling to claim a part of Big Daddy’s inheritance. ABBA fans can sing along to the classics on the 4th, and two famous faces are performing on the Northampton stage the following days, with Monty Python’s Michael Palin (now sold out) on the 5th and Sir Roger Moore on the 6th, talking about the highlights of his career. Fans of George and Ira Gershwin are also in for a treat with Crazy for Gershwin on October 12th, as performed by the London Concert Orchestra. Amateur actors will also get the chance to shine on stage from October 28th until the 1st with South Pacific (pictured bottom), as put on by the Northampton Musical Theatre Company.
From cute baby dinos to teeth-gnashing giants, children and their parents can pay a visit to the Dinosaur Zoo at MK Theatre from October 1-5 (pictured left). The following week, from the 6th until the 11th, the sequel to Dreamboats and Petticoats (aptly named Dreamboats and Miniskirts) returns to the Milton Keynes stage in a flurry of swinging skirts and hair gel. It’s 1963 and the world is changing. On Monday the 13th, film and theatre actor Simon Callow stars in The Man Jesus, a play that witnesses key moments in the life of Jesus, while An Evening of Burlesque will take place on the 16th with Dancing In The Streets on the 17th. Milton Keynes’ own Carabosse Theatre Company will return to the Chrysalis Theatre from October 7-12 to perform Mervyn Peake’s Gormenghast.
The Stables will host the Shanty Theatre Company on October 11th as they perform The Story Giant, while Music In The Round has commissioned a new play for families with Crazy Creatures on the 21st. In Bedford, award-nominated Idle Motion’s stunning piece of theatre tells the untold stories of Bletchley Park at Bedford Theatre on October 14th, with Bedford Preparatory School taking on Shakespeare’s Othello from 8-9th.
