Out and About with Mark Lancaster MP
‘No’ Vote Means Time for Change
I’ve welcomed the news that Scotland has voted ‘No’ in the referendum, meaning that it will stay part of the United Kingdom, but I’ve added my voice to those calling for equality for England.
During the campaign all three party leaders agreed that further powers should be devolved to Scotland, such as the right to set its own levels of income tax under the so called ‘Devo-max’ arrangements, meaning that the only country now in the union not to have any devolved powers will be England. Over two years ago, in January 2012, I asked Nick Clegg: “Given the economic implications of an independent Scotland for my constituents, when will the English finally get a say on the future of the Union?”.
I’m pleased that Scotland has decided to stay part of the Union, but it is equally important that if we are to devolve more power then we ensure equality for England. I don’t believe that we need a separate parliament for England, but I do believe that now is the time for Scottish MPs to stop voting on English- only matters such as the NHS. Scotland has spoken, now it’s time to ensure fairness in the democratic system across the United Kingdom.
More Jobs = Less Unemployment
Unemployment figures have continued to decline month on month for Milton Keynes North.
The announcement shows that during the month of August claimants have continued to fall significantly. Compared to this time last year there are now 730 less claimants and 85 less than in July 2014.
This news demonstrates a positive message that the government is determined to provide opportunities for those who want to work and I will continue to do all I can to support that message here in Milton Keynes.
Back to school in 2015

Rucksacks & Boots!
“What a great, well organised community event, brilliant!” That was just one of the many positive comments received from the 273 walkers who took part in this year’s Newport Muster.
In the warm autumnal sunshine, old
and new faces joined the 6th Newport Muster. The series of different walks meander in and around Newport Pagnell and it was clear to see that the gentle walk, which involved a cream tea, proved to be very popular as surprisingly did the beer walk!
It was also great to see so many families out discovering our countryside and everyone was completely surprised by the added bonus of the Indian summer. A big thank you goes to the committee who work throughout the year to bring so many people together. The Newport Muster is growing in stature and I’m delighted that so many people get to really appreciate Newport Pagnell and its surrounding areas.
