MKBrass’ Annual Concert, ‘Hooked on Classics’, will be held this year on the 23rd November at the Christian Centre,
Oldbrook, Milton Keynes.
MK Brass is the premier brass band in the Milton Keynes area. It was formed in 1984 under the name Broseley Brass, and some years ago took the name of Milton Keynes Brass, wanting to strengthen its presence within the vibrant,
growing city that is the band’s home.
The band has held an annual concert in memory of Jo Causer, who was a member of MK Brass and who died very suddenly in 2007 at the age of 28. Jo was a fine cornet player and her death came as a great shock to all who knew her. When Jo’s instrument was subsequently returned to the band, the case was opened to find over £800 of sponsorship money that she had raised from participating in the London Marathon just before her death. The Band has held an annual concert in her memory ever since choosing a different charity to support each year, and this year the nominated charity will be Macmillan Nurses. For many people affected by cancer, Macmillan nurses are a valued and trusted source of expert information, advice and support. As Macmillan Nurses are funded almost entirely through voluntary donations, the band would like to help them to continue to provide these vital services, and hopefully increase the number of Macmillan nurses available to people with cancer by staging this concert.
In the last few years, MK Brass’s Jo Causer Memorial Concert has entertained audiences with themed performances including Big Band Music, Music from the Movies, and Music from the Musicals.
On Saturday 23rd November the concert, entitled ‘Hooked on Classics’, will feature popular classics with a particular focus on British composers.
Tickets prices are £10 for Adults and £5 concessions.
