Fifty - Not Out
The Newport Pagnell Rotary Club celebrated its 50th Charter Anniversary on the 4th October, 2013. Club members, wives and partners, together with Rotarians from several other Rotary Clubs, assembled at Mitchell Hall, Cranfield University. They enjoyed an evening of good food and fellowship, with entertainment provided by local flautist James Westlake.
There were also speeches from Rotarians Gerald Mann, David Massingberd- Mundy and John Goss, recalling events and achievements during the fifty years since the club was founded in 1963. President of the Inner Wheel Club of Newport Pagnell, Valerie Belcher, passed on her members’ greetings, and presented a plaque to Rotary Club President Nigel Benson, in recognition of this Rotary Club milestone.
We were also delighted to welcome three couples from our twinned Rotary Club of Ede in Holland, who flew in to Luton especially for the celebration.
The main speaker and guest of Honour, was Rotary International Director Mike Webb, who entertained and amused the audience of around 85 guests with his well-delivered oratory.
Christmas Is Coming
One of the Rotary Club’s main Fund Raising periods is fast approaching, and Newport Pagnell Rotarians will be present at Frosts Garden Centre every weekend - and a Thursday evening - holding out collection buckets whilst attempting to stay warm as appropriate. Our collections start on Saturday morning, 16th November, when Santa Claus will be arriving at the Garden Centre, and the Ice Rink at Frosts will also be opening for budding skaters, young and old.
The Rotary Club will also give attendees the opportunity to win a bottle of bubbly on the Bucks Fizz Wheel, and the younger generation can expect to acquire a suitable balloon.
Please come along to Frosts Garden Centre sometime during the run up to Christmas and enjoy the experience, at the same time sparing a few coins for our Rotary Charity funds. All of the proceeds will be going to Willen Hospice and other Rotary approved charities.
