SCHOOLS REPORT
Lavendon School
During March Lavendon School welcomed Ron Blomfield and Rod Moore from the Royal British Legion into school for this years Michael Farrer Award. The theme for the Michael Farer Award this year was Nature. The entries last year for the Royal Jubilee were fabulous and we all felt that the children were not able to show their entries and receive the true merit they really deserved. With this in mind we decided to ask all children to show their entries to the rest of their class.Previously entries have consisted of art work, collages, songs, raps, models and power point presentation. Entries for the Michael Farrer award are only limited by imagination! The Michael Farer Award winners were presented in celebration assembly on Friday 22nd March at 2:30pm. The winners were Elijah Garrod Year 5 for his survival bag and Eden Young Foundation for her poster of nature. Well done!

The Easter break worked its magic; after healthy doses of chocolate children and staff returned refreshed and ready to begin the summer term. With the relative thaw in temperatures our frog population returned to the pond and spawned in short order. Offset against a backdrop of different daffodil varieties that formed the subject of our initial art and science work. Where did they all come from? Describing domestication and the work of Charles Darwin in explaining (simply) variation amongst species seemed to satisfy most.
Clubs also blossomed around the school. That hardy perennial, Recorder Club, started with the ever spring like Lydia. We hosted a training session for Energy Club an initiative to help children stay fit and healthy in a fun way. Parents and staff will use this experience in extra-curricula ways to enhance our provision. Gardening Club re- emerged from hibernation to catch up with planting in the veg beds and starting our pumpkins and salads in seed modules indoors. And of course it wouldn’t be spring without the cheerful tones of Maypole music being heard
between gusty showers and the always cheerful exhortations of Mrs Betty Feasey reminding us all of the correct steps. How does Mrs Feasey remember all this, Mr Storey? Lets ask her shall we Nell? Probably because I’ve been doing this for 37 years! 37 years, WOW! We hope to see you on the Knoll on May Day.
The star of this first very busy week was however an enduring classic. Mr Jim Fleming kindly brought his 1961 Bentley for the children to study as part of their Vehicles topic with student Mr Simon Spillings. We all marvelled at the well maintained luxury of the car and at how many advanced features it had for its time and design. Children then went on to make designs for their own constructions.

We end the Spring Term with some extra and unexpected fun in the snow. An Easter hunt with clues adding up to a chocolate egg was held in chilly but invigorating spirits. Red Nose Day was well attended; a good sum raised from donations, an interesting range of red clothes to replace school uniform and lunch boxes with red themed healthy food. PTFA sponsored and flawlessly organized as usual. Reverend Tim took us to this important marker in the church calendar with his thought provoking assemblies. A common question that he had to field was ‘Why is it called Good Friday if that was the day Jesus died?’ That and consideration of the betrayal by friends were topical issues.Mrs. Betty Feasey was our good (baking) fairy and arranged
for each child to take home a still warm handmade hot cross bun. The scent of baking perfumed the school all day and the children had to read the recipe and make dough and buns carefully under her supervision. A visit to Feasey Towers introduced the Reception children to the hens laying the culinary eggs. Mutual fascination. Many thanks as always. Our Child Reach Partnership with St. Andrew’s School continued with a joint day of activities at Sherington School with new friendships and working partnerships begun and further plans for the summer term discussed. Our final day saw a traditional egg-rolling competition and Easter bonnets parade. Again the PTFA stepped up to the challenge with prizes and rosettes for all who took part. CS
