Summer Tournament
All members will be invited shortly to enter the various events including the popular Mixed Doubles which has a Plate event spin off. American Tournaments
The April event was well supported as it had stopped snowing and after many good games and cakes, Stuart Ayling and Glynise King won the final against Ruth Ayling and Craig Mackellar (See group and finalist photos). The next event is on Sunday 19 May at 2pm. Sign up in the clubhouse or call 01234 241065. All adults and Over 12s welcome.
Box Leagues
The popular box leagues have restarted. Last summer we had over 40 players playing singles and doubles regularly. We will have two leagues running this summer. The first is to Friday 7th June and with relegation and promotion following the completion of the first period, the second period will finish at the end of July.
Men’s singles, ladies singles and MXD doubles, U9 boys and girls, U10 boys and girls, U12 boys, U14 boys, U16 boys, U18 boys and U16 girls will be the events. You can enter what you want of course. It may be if you are a U16 girls/boy you may want to play in the adults as well. You will need a partner for the MXD, although if you haven’t got one, Nigel may be able to find you one.
Players are arranged into leagues against players of a similar standard. You are assured therefore of competitive tennis. The format of each match is two tie break sets with a match tie break played if one set all. Each match should last no more than 75 minutes and you will have 3 or 4 matches to play
To enter, please contact Nigel.
Adult Team Summer Season results
A good start to the season in cup matches! The Ladies A beat Wolverton in a cliffhanger by just a few games after sharing the sets thanks to Kay Gibbs and Lynda Baker who stepped up to play with Glynise King and Eleanor Carter.
Then the Mens B repeated the feat, also winning on games with Olney represented by Rob Shacklock, Malcom Donne, Andrew Barr and Ian Dunkley.
The Ladies C were not so fortunate as they battled to a 4-4 draw with Milton Keynes then lost by just 3 games. Poor reward for playing to past 10pm! Great efforts though by Emma Maitland, Ruth Ayling, Liz Brewster and Lyn Quennell.
The Mens A went down in the cup against a stronger Stony Stratford side despite the efforts of Simon Barter, Mike Macdonnell,
Gun Chui Hwang and Tom Field.
New Junior Awards Scheme
Well done to Aiden Lynch, the first winner of our new awards scheme. Aiden successfully completed all the key tasks of serving, rallying, approach and volley plus scoring a match to win his LTA Red 5 Award.
More Junior Success
Well done too to Susie and Daniel Cornwell. Daniel won the U16 County tournament and Susannah won the U12 county tournament, both at Riverside this Easter holiday. Susannah also came 4th in a Regional tournament at Cambridge and has been invited for a trial with the Bucks U12 having already played for Beds U12.
Quiz Night
Over a hundred filled the Football Club and enjoyed our annual quiz. Thanks to Jo and her team who put it on and helped raise good funds for the club and the Moonwalk Breast Cancer charity.
New Match Secretary
We are delighted to welcome back Ruth Ayling onto the Committee as our new Match Secretary. Ruth is a club captain and a regular and fearless player, so is very equipped to do the job!
