BAG NECTAR POINTS FOR OXFAM DONATIONS
Newport Pagnell and District
Probus Club
Who are we? We are a social club for retired Professional and Business People of both sexes. We are the only mixed Probus club in this area. There are Probus Clubs all over the country and in many
parts of the world. They were established initially as a home for older Rotary Club Members, to increase the opportunity for them to recruit younger members.
What do we do? We meet on the first Tuesday of every month in the Carlton House Club, Olney High Street at around 12.15 pm for a buffet lunch followed by an interesting speaker. It has excellent disabled access and facilities. We also have a number of social events, such as canal boat trips, visits to gardens, theatres etc. and, from time to time raise money for worthwhile charities.
Forthcoming speakers:
07.05 Hugh Granger, “The art of deception in WWII”.
04.06 Brian Wilson, “Memorable occasions”.
02.07 Lyn Kirkbright, “The pattern of my life – my life in pattern”. 06.08 Mark Davis, “The story of two warrior queens – QE1 and QE2” What does it cost? £10 annual membership and £10 for each buffet lunch.
How do I join? Ring Ela Flint on 01908 231126 or Brian Wilson on 01234 712006, who will give you any necessary background information. Attendance at three monthly sessions is allowed before membership subs are due.
We have a new committee: President, Jennifer Goddard, V-President, Ken Lawson, Secretary, Ela Flint, Treasurer, Lyn Kirkbright, Social Secretaries, Susan and Brian Wilson, Committee members: Neil Beeton and John Brimley and we are anxious to increase our membership from around 50 to 75 and generally to make our club even more active and enjoyable for our members.
Do join us. You are assured of a warm welcome and a friendly ambience.
The Oxfam shop on 70 High St Newport Pagnell has unveiled an exciting new partnership with the UK’s
largest loyalty programme, Nectar which will see customers being able to collect Nectar points on items they donate to the shop. The initiative, which is the first of its kind, aims to raise millions of pounds for Oxfam’s work fighting poverty around the world.
Customers at the Newport Pagnell Oxfam shop who sign up to Tag Your Bag, Oxfam’s Gift Aid scheme (Gift Aid allows charities to reclaim the 25% tax on donations by UK taxpayers), will be able to earn two points for every £1 their donated items raise when sold in Oxfam shops or online.* Customers will also receive 100 points when they first sign up.
Carla Alexander Oxfams Newport Pagnell shop manager, said: “We’re delighted that customers will now be able to earn Nectar points on items that they donate to the Newport Pagnell Oxfam shop through Tag Your Bag. This not only acts as a useful incentive to drive much- needed quality donations to our shop but it also provides Nectar collectors
with a great way in which to earn further Nectar points.”Customers can sign up to Tag Your Bag in an Oxfam shop or by visiting www.oxfam.org. uk/tagyourbag. They will receive a welcome pack which includes the all-important tags (pictured right) which must be attached to the bag of donated goods before being dropped at an Oxfam store.
Oxfam will process all donations, adding a code unique to the donor to each item to ensure that sales can be tracked back to the individual donor, allowing points to be awarded if the item is sold in store or through Oxfam’s online shop.
First launched in September 2012, the partnership with Oxfam already allows Nectar collectors to spend their points on gifts through Oxfam Unwrapped - Oxfam’s poverty- busting gift ideas that help change lives around the world.
This latest addition to the partnership is part of Nectar’s continued drive to encourage positive behaviour change, building on existing opportunities for collectors to earn points for reusing carrier bags at Sainsbury’s, switching to paperless billing with British Gas or recycling with Birmingham City Council.
