Welcome GreyHoundFriends (GHF) are an independent group of greyhound and lurcher owners and lovers who enjoy getting together with others for social dog walks and fundraising events in the North Bucks / South Northants area.
Sharing a passion for this gentle breed of dog means we also share a concern for the thousands of greyhounds and lurchers abandoned (or worse) each year in the UK alone.
All dogs (not just the long-legged lot) are very welcome on our socialising with different breeds we just love to have them along. From time to time we support other breeds of dogs in need.
Our main aims are to:
raise funds for greyhounds and lurchers in the care of any rescue organisation draw attention to the plight of thousands of unwanted greyhounds and promote them as making wonderful pets provide opportunities to get together with other dogs and their owners for lots of fun and socialisation
offer a support network to other owners when required
See our future events and come and join in - we’re a friendly bunch.
If you and your dogs would like to help out at any of our events just contact us - the more helpers we have, the more we can do. How to help
If you live locally to us there are lots of things you can do to help: Come on our walks which provides great publicity, the dogs love it, we help socialise the youngsters amongst us, and we raise a few £s as well. All dogs welcome – not just greyhounds
Attend or volunteer at our fundraising events and help raise much needed funds whilst enjoying time with your own dogs (most of our events involve our dogs)
Join us at a Meet and Greet - usually outside a garden centre, pet store or supermarket. Our dogs love all the fuss they get as at the same time. Keep an eye on our future events for the next one. Donate or collect new items (such as unwanted gifts) for creative) that we can sell at our events - bring them with you
If you can knit or sew you can help make items for us to sell or make coats for needy dogs in cold kennels. Ask Marian for details. If you are not near us but want to get involved:
Speak to your local rescue centre and see what help they need. All over the UK, animal shelters are desperately short of funds, volunteers, bedding, and food - especially in these hard times when money is short and more and more animals are abandoned. If you are not able to be hands-on but want to help:
Promote as much as you can the situation regarding the thousands of unwanted greyhounds who are killed at a young age because they are of no further use
Highlight wherever possible what wonderful, loving pets greyhounds and lurchers make
Simply make a donation - check out this site (and others) for any appeals for really desperate cases - any donations, however small, will make such a difference.
