Hi Phonebox Magazine
I recently saw an article entitled ‘So who is this young lady?’ with a photo of a young lady in the 1997 pancake race. It’s me!!
How lovely of them to wonder and ask about what I’m doing now! I do hope they are well too?!
I actually remember that photo being taken! I remember the lady asking me if she could take my photo and I replied with “but I didn’t win!” ...thinking she would only want a photo of the winner!
I’m still living in Olney, after graduating with a degree in BA Hons Fashion Marketing and I’m currently working as Web and Marketing Manager for Pod Shoes who are based in Olney.
It was a lovely throw back to see this printed in the Phonebox Magazine! And thank you ever so much for passing my comments on.
I’ve attached a cropped photo of me now from my graduation photos.
Kind regards, Amanda Alston
Yes I know it’s a bit early to be thinking of February already, but as Shrove Tuesday is a little earlier next year, I hope you will forgive me for this gentle ‘early warning’ to all our potential runners.
Application forms will be at the NatWest Bank in the first week of January and we encourage as many ladies over 18 years who have lived in Olney for the last 3 months to enter. A cash prize for the winner of around £300 plus many extra prizes make it well worth entering and dare I say training for. We also encourage entrants to get sponsorship for their own charities and we give an extra
prize to the one who raises the most money. All runners get a goody bag with prizes in. Pancake Day 2013 is again being sponsored by Francis Jackson Homes Ltd and Dupont® Teflon who are providing a large marquee on the Market Place for the day, and the prize giving will take place in there after the Shriving Service at about 2.15 p.m.
Dupont®Teflon again have the services of Lesley Waters for the whole day. Lesley is well known for her Television appearances on ‘Ready Steady Cook and many other food programmes. She will be assisting with the Children’s Races in the morning as
well as doing a Cooking Demonstration at mid-day, then presenting the prizes in the afternoon.
Also we will ask Lesley to be judge for a new Cookery Competition. Entrants eggs and milk) to make sweet or savoury recipes of their choice. There will be
categories for adults, young people and very young people.
Keep abreast of Pancake Day on Facebook, twitter and our Pancake Day web site which is coming soon.
Most importantly put the date in your diary now. More information in next months Phone Box. Tony Evans
