A HIVE OF ACTIVITY AT STOKE GOLDINGTON
Stoke Goldington CE First School has a packed programme of activities and learning at the moment!
World Book Day at the beginning of March inspired book sharing amongst the 19 pupils, a chance to dress up as their favourite book character plus a trip to the Roald Dahl Children's Gallery at Bucks County Museum in Aylesbury for Year 1 and Year 2 children. During the visit children were able to explore Fantastic Mr. Fox's Den and travel up and down in the chocolate-making machine from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. The trip inspired their studies of Roald Dahl's characters back in the classroom where they created their own Twits characters on a brilliant display board!
resources such as coins, Numicon, fraction boards and cubes.
All the children were proud to share their work in a special 'Sharing
Hot on the heels of World Book Day, World Maths Day prompted a raft of fun maths-related activities for the Foundation Stage Busy Bees and the Year 1 and Year 2 Learning Ladybirds. They all took part in fun puzzles and problem solving using
Assembly' for parents and following that the School's doors were open once more for a Community Art Day. This event was inspired by a 17th century Willem Kalf painting which the children used as a prompt for their own art and craft-based project which parents, School governors and local residents were invited to take part in. The painting is a still life featuring, amongst other items, a lobster and a drinking-horn. The Busy Bees got involved by making their very own lobsters – quite a challenge!
Moving to the outdoors, all the School children took part in the Sport Relief Mile and were able to experience a fun tennis taster session led by the Head Coach from Olney Tennis Club.
With a special Mother's Day assembly, Easter church service at St. Peter's and a regular after-school Church Club to add into the mix, the variety and extent of learning at Stoke Goldington is fantastic. If you are looking for a place for your child in September 2012 or beyond, you can come along to see the School in action at an Open Morning on Tuesday 22nd May, from 11.30am – 12.30pm. A small village School has an incredible amount to offer children from surrounding villages and Milton Keynes – the best way to experience it is to see it in action!

As an Olympic Ambassador The Duchess of Cambridge visited the London 2012 Olympic Park and Kate Fielden from Joules in Olney was quick to spot the clothes she was
wearing.... especially the jeans.
There were three cheeses to try and we started with a French goats cheese, soft and delicious with a strong flavour. To accompany this we sampled red or white French wine. Andrew, a wine specialist, explained that a cheese should be accompanied by a wine from the same country as they are from the same soil and the same climate and will therefore complement each other very well.
“We love that Kate chose to wear something a little more casual for this official engagement opting for a dark blue blazer, red jeans and a silk scarf around her neck!” said Kate.
The second cheese was Spanish and made from ewes milk. This was totally different, being a hard cheese with a mild flavour. We had red or white wine, this time from Spain.
“If you shop our new early summer collection you too can recreate Kate’s fantastic look with the Harriet jersey blazer, which looks great paired with the Olney cropped jeans and that pop of colour with the Porthcawe neckerchief.” We couldn’t agree more, Kate.
Cheese and deli specialist, Victor, then introduced us to an English cows milk cheese with a twist: Wensleydale with ginger. Some ladies were not too sure about this combination, but it was truly delicious, with a refreshing taste and not too spicy. Again we had red or white wine to accompany it.

For our March meeting we were pleased to welcome two representatives from Waitrose who came to tell us about some of the wines and cheeses available in the store.
Let the games begin!
When asked why some cheeses were much more expensive than others, Victor explained that some mature quite quickly and others take much longer; also cows milk is plentiful whereas ewes milk is not and this affects the price.

Andrew told us that most English wines come from small vineyards with quite a small output, and so many of them can only be found in their local areas.

We all thoroughly enjoyed this tasting experience, and several ladies will no doubt be visiting Waitrose in the near future to purchase some of these new flavours.
The competition (letter D) was won by June Weston with a picture of a dog, 2nd Pat Cutts with a donkey, 3rd Bea Thomas with dominoes.
The raffle was won by new member Jane Jones, 2nd June Weston.
We were pleased to welcome two guests to this meeting, and hope they will join us again next month.
Newport Pagnell Women’s Institute meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm in the Royal British Legion Club, and is always delighted to welcome new members. In April
Mr. T. Williams will suggest ‘Where there’s a Will there’s a way’.
