News from New City Photographic Society
Round four of our Internal League of Competitions was always going to be a challenge.
With the set subject for entries of "Should have been deleted" - just what would qualify for inclusion?
Bad pictures? well not really, although a super image with the photographer's thumb in the shot was guaranteed to feature at some point, because we've all done that in our time.
So much for the members and their entries, what about the judge? Pater Jackman was standing in at short notice. Had he had longer to contemplate the challenge, he might have declined our invitation. We were truly fortunate that he came to judge for us as despite the odds, we had a great evening. The combination of quirky entries and Peter's witty and jovial manner raised considerably more laughs than usual in a 'serious' competition.
In the end it was, of course, the images specially taken for the title, which won, rather than the stray disasters from members' archives. The print section winner was Simon Raynor with 'Breach of Confidence',
showing the careless handling of confidential documents, a topical subject after news items of private papers being dumped in a park bin.
The projections section was taken by Neil Schofield using the reflective dome of a hand drier to photograph himself in the rather taboo area for cameras - a gents loo. Neil called his picture 'RIP'
These images and other high scoring entries can be viewed on our website www.newcityps.co.uk by then going to the competitions section of the site.
Olney Camera Club
The talk by Bob Brind-Surch in January on Macro Photography was fascinating and very instructive, and a great help to all members interested in this field of photography but unsure how to begin or how to improve their technique. Bob also offered an insight into the equipment to use that was extremely helpful in showing that one does not need to spend a fortune on expensive equipment to achieve stunning results. This was an excellent evening, and information on Bob’s work, hints and tips on macro photography, and the courses he gives can be found at www.naturesphotos.co.uk.
We have a full and interesting programme for the rest of the year. New members are always welcome, please look at our website for further details.
If you are interested in taking part in our image competitions please look at our website for the list of categories and the rules for entry for 2012.
