A very hAppy new yeAr from Stoke goldington ce firSt School!
The run-up to Christmas was a really busy, fun time for the children starting with a visit to Stoke Goldington Christmas Trees to learn more about the Christmas tree trade!
The 19 children spanning Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2 spent half a day enjoying a guided walk around the plantation, plus the chance to plant their own Christmas tree saplings which should be ready to harvest in 7-8 years’ time. The children split into groups, with one group creating tree collages in the business' newly-built log cabin, whilst the other group explored the different varieties of tree out in the plantation. Their mathematical skills were put to the test counting the amount of trees in each row!
Foundation Stage Teacher Mrs. Liz McHale commented: “It was a fantastic visit which the
children will remember for many years to come!”
The trip culminated in all the children choosing their very own tree for School, which was cut down and netted for them before they proudly took it back to the Year 1 and 2 classroom.
During the last week of term, the School's Nativity play performance of Prickly Hay attracted over 100 people in the audience across two shows and left everyone itching for more!
The 19 children aged between 4 and 7 years put on a fantastic show centred around a stable boy called Sam and his rush to get his stable clean and presentable for some very
important visitors. There were seven catchy songs amongst the show, featuring everything from country dancing to hand jiving!
Head Teacher Mrs. Kathryn Crompton said: “It was a memorable Nativity play which all the children threw themselves into with great enthusiasm....and it was rewarded with a very appreciative audience!”
This term sees a forthcoming trip for the Busy Bees Foundation Stage to North Crawley School, (which is affiliated to Stoke Goldington) where they can catch up with their friends there for a day's activities and plenty more learning through play!

Pre-school is full of energy after a busy festive season followed by a well earned Christmas break. Last term the children had an eventful time learning all about winter, creating winter scenes and
practicing their favourite Christmas songs ready for a special performance for all of the parents. Their hard work paid off as they acted out a wonderful Nativity story and made all of the parents and staff proud.
To round off the year the
children also enjoyed an end of term Christmas party where they were treated to
some festive fun and delicious party food. It was made an unforgettable day by a surprise visit from a very special guest, Santa Clause himself!
Still looking back to last term, the Pre School had an inspection visit from Ofsted and we are pleased to announce that we received an overall GOOD rating with an OUTSTANDING
for our ‘engagement with parents and carers’.
The report reads: “Partnerships with parents are highly positive. A highly motivated parent committee manages the pre-school and so
parents are actively engaged in decision-making on key matters affecting the school. Innovative methods of engaging parents ... mean that all parents are very well informed about their children’s achievements, well-being and development.”
The effectiveness of our provision for early years education has been well recognized in the following comments made by the inspector:
“Overall, children are happy, settled and feel secure at the pre-school because staff have developed warm and trusting relationships with them. Children are making good progress because staff and parents work
exceptionally well together to meet children’s needs” and have “a good capacity to maintain continuous improvement.”
“Observations inform well-developed activity plans that follow children’s interests. Therefore, children are becoming active, curious and inquisitive learners who are very well equipped with the skills they will need in future learning.”

We’d just like to say a quick thanks to all those who came out to support our Beer and Wine evening in November. It was a great opportunity to let our hair down, socialise and raise money at the same time. The beer and wine we sampled
was fantastic so a massive thanks to Bacchus Wine and the Hopping Mad brewery from Olney for supplying the booze! We raised over £200 so thanks to everyone who came along or helped out to make the evening a success.
